Bring back Thargoids!

PSA:

The war is over, the Thargoids have moved on, the human population is pining for the good old days of mass slaughter and kidnapping and possible bio-experiments.

The events described in this thread were unfortunately features of an active war between the Thargoids and Humans, why would they continue when the Thargoids have been defeated and driven out of the human bubble, leaving remnants for humans to pick over. The next lot of Thargoid content will no doubt be something entirely different and entirely up to FDEV when and how to implement.

End PSA
The other Thargoid War stuff makes sense, but why did station evacuation missions have to go?

Those missions were around before the Thargoids with terrorist attacks IIRC, so in my eyes there's no reason to not still have them, even if they are rare. That could easily be worked into the current narrative, or even enhance it.

Regular passenger missions can be pretty boring and have poor payout, but at least the evacuation missions gave a bit of thrill and also made you feel like you were doing the right thing.

Yep. Titan locations have remained marked even post-destruction the markers disappear using colonization map mode. There were 8 and while I'm not motivated to write down their respective locations, only Cocijo moved from its arrival point of Col 285 Sector BA-P c6-18*, to Sol.

*Which curiously remains locked to colonization, assuming bug over feature. Anybody fancy sending or forming a research team down to that ammonia world's surface?

That wasn't a thing. The terror attack state doesn't have any effects.

Edit: the only time this did happen, it was a story event and the antagonists (NMLA) used thargoid-tech-based bombs... quite possibly because damaged station assets that didn't have thargoid corrosion effects weren't/ aren't part of FDs current asset pool.

... Specifically, FD, bring back some of the amazing assets you've developed and which now aren't experienced by new players. These include:-

* Damaged starports with their panicky announcers and stressful time-limited and obstructed evacuation missions.

* Titans with the heat-vent-torpedoing activity and all sorts of caustic problems.

* Ground installations attacked by waves of Thargoids culminating in Hydras, impossible to solo and encouraging grouping.

* Spire sites with their unique salvage activities.

* Thargoid bases with their galaxy display (actually, I guess those are still there; some missions to activate the display and gather data could be good).

* Similar for Barnacle fields with visiting thargoids.

* Related Guardian sites and space installations, which are still there but now have no purpose.

* Ram Tah's missions: there's no way for new players to find these unless they happen to dock in the right place. Maybe revamp them? - Some guidance on what systems to go to; Obelisk displays which give clues but only fully activate when you approach with the right objects aboard; a credit buff to account for recent inflation? (Oh, and the second mission needs Thargoid samples which are probably no longer available).

* Narrative connections (missions) to Dav's Hope, crashed Thargoids and crashed Anacondas.

* Continuation of narrative hooks: the pod people; the Thargoid telepathy lady; what happened to Salvation; what's special about the Merope system; what the other system was in the Thargoid Probe message; what the final Thargoid message with the people-pyramid meant; tell new players where to get meta-alloys.

I know all this is work and would need to be given some narrative, but those were all great game experiences over the years and surely a pre-made asset is less expensive than new stuff. The development cash has already been spent; make more use of it.
YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES.

Please ;-)

Best ask FDEV what their future plans are for Thargoids and whether any of that will even vaguely fit in with what they have already planned, I'll give you a hint, they won't tell you!
I won't ask cause I already know the answer.

Fdev scrapped 90% of the thargoid story. and scrapped 99% of the guardian story.
Cause they were pandering to the largest crowd they could keep attention of... which was the "EM Homan! Blest Awiens! Geeenoceeede!" crowd.

Hopefully with fdev seeming to gear up with vangaurds we may see more tools to somehow craft our own stories.
Maybe even somehow encite thargoid attacks.

But I am tired of thargoids.
I am tired of humans.
I'd like to see something ELSE. Before we are forced into another FOMO-festaval of thargoid titan content.

To be clear, I don't care what direction they choose for the story. I just want some great already-developed game assets not to be wasted. I think if they're not mad, they'll also want that.

Also Thargoids were the closest Elite had to anything even close to an "endgame" for group pve in the form of spires. It was actually fun and interesting and required good coordination to pull off between mixed ground and air forces to complete them. It was the only instance of actual combined arms gameplay in the game that wasn't just some form of spontaneous player interruption in the currently rather broken ground combat zones.

With the removal of thargoid content, this entire subset of content for this community is basically gone from the game. It just doesn't exist anymore, for the sake of some narrative that in all honesty has been incredibly dry and uninteresting overall to follow outside of a small handful of events where players were actually allowed to have input. If you wrote a book about the history of Elite: Dangerous from it's launch to it's current period, it would be less than 50 pages and very boring except for the first interactions with Thargoids.
