Bring back the Docking computer.

On a more serious note... Docking is super easy. Even more with small ships ! Your in a sidey, if your having trouble docking with this then you should practice before buying an other ship. Fitting a docking computer will only get you and others killed. And when you will get killed in a big ship you'll want to get rid of the docking computer. There you are, with a big ship, never learned how to dock. Tell me where you are so i can blacklist this system XD

Still there, whew...

First thing I did when starting the game was earn enough credits for the docking computer to replace my discovery scanner; might get one again someday when I move to a bigger ship. I can dock just fine, but when you want a refill on your coffee or need to make a phone call, why not let the game do it for you. My only suggestion to those using them is to never open a side panel while you are docking for it has a tendency to try and dock you sideways.

I don't see why you think docking is really difficult but even then, there IS a docking computer. This is why we have search functions.

I LOVE docking.

Leave it as it is.

I will NEVER buy the docking module.

ever. lol.

I'm with you, docking is great the way it is now. But its worth using the computer at least once just to hear that docking music :) after seeing how bad the docking AI is though you will want to be removing that thing real quick, it almost got me destroyed on my first use :D

Personally I hope it is gone, it's a waste of money, power and a slot.

I mean why pay for a downgrade, it's tediously slow and more likely to kill you than manual docking.

Learn to dock, you will save time, credits and can use the slot for something useful.

I'm still in the same system I was when I started. Now have 3000 credits so I still need to earn some more before I buy a DC. Now all I have to do is find a high tech system which was not necessary in the original games of Elite since Sol WAS a high tech system.

Chill buddy, you DO NOT have to be in a high tech system. They are for sale all over the galaxy, guaranteed one of the many stations in SOL has one. You are getting frustrated after what, 10 runs? And over an incredibly minor aspect of the simulation. Boy are you going to have fun with this game..

Tryst, the docking computer in ED is suicidal. It will try and kill you. Do yourself a favor and embrace manual docking. It may take a little bit to get use to but it is way faster, fun once you get the hang of it and adds much to the game. To make it as easy as possible, ensure you have Flight Assist turned on, Rotation Correction turned on and move all power to shields to reduce your max speed. If throttle control is still an issue, lower your landing gear and cargo scoop as well to realty reduce the max throttle.

I'ma wait here and look for Part II of this Thread: "Bring back the docking Computer II, the #@$@$ computer killed me!" coming to a Forum near you soon......

remember, the Docking computer has been made by the same company that brought you Hal 9000 :p

I love it that much- i've been practising with FA off:).

The less said about that atm the better...lol.

Must practice more....must practice more....must.....

You can get them in every system, you will find them under 'internal modules', you will need to lose one of your other modules to install one though. It's best to lose the basic discoverer module rather than a cargo rack.

The only things Docking Computers are good for are 'The Blue Danube' and getting you killed.

such yummie oil!

I bet she didn't spill a drop. Epic.

~

As for docking - I took it as a challenge and a bit of an adrenaline rush (particularly if you are trying to get through the slot with a fat cargo hold full of goodies)... so I started off docking without assist or rotation correction on. Once I got the hang of that in my Sidewinder after a few dings, I didn't look back. Nothing like a cargo hold full of quest deliverables worth tens of thousands of CRs facing that spinning slot to wake you up from your stupor at 2AM.

Been using one on my Clipper for over a month. The issue is people not lining up the ship correctly, not realizing that they have throttle overide or going to take or wizz expecting the automatics to be flawless.

Oh sure buy a docking computer but you might as well put Stevie Wonder* in the driving seat.

*or Bozo the clown.

If docking annoys you, you should get better at it. For me it's average of 70 seconds between supercruise exit and browsing station menu, way less than even shortest supercruise trips.

Sigh... the docking computer is not suicidal and will not try to kill you. I have said before, i have had one fitted to all my ships as a first priority. i can dock and have done so hundreds of times without incident. but the DC has been 100% reliable. in a sidey, a hauler, a cobra, a T6 and an asp. in starports and platforms. As in never let me down. Ever. Does i in about 2 minutes on average which is about as fast as i can. all you do is roughly line up the slot, throttle down and go for a cuppa or a comfort break. first one in beta was a bit rubbish but the current one is pretty good. I just wish people would not post misinformation as though it were fact.
