broken update already :(

My poor 6-7 year old pc has had numerous migrations, and I think my oldest HDD is from a previous build from 2009!
ED is the sole occupant of a 100Gb SSD, Most everything else is either on my main 500Gb SSD (if game) or on one of the other 3 HDDs' partitions.
Anyhoo, my point was that I now have weirdness like so:
ed-launcher-1.jpg

And then the launcher dies.

So this is what happens when you add disk on top of disk, followed by a messy Win7 to Win10 update... you kid yourself "I know this Windows stuff, easy peasy...", the reality is no one knows!

PS Any suggestions to resolve the above?

:D

PS
More seriously, have you tried validating game files?

PPS
If you can't because the launcher is unresponsive, try validating via Steam. If you don't have ED on Steam try to reinstall the launcher (you can backup the game files first and simply paste them after you reinstalled the launcher).

Hah hah... yeah I wish... but all my datas and stuffz??!!?1 o_O

I like the sound of validating game files... but I can't use the launcher (and I'm not on Steam for ED). Is there a tool? (Apart from me)

Make a backup... ;)
Personally I always just remove the old HDD and put it under the bed. So far I never wanted to look at my old data again... :D

In that case I'd probably just try to reinstall the launcher first.

have this. googled a bit. the net hinted at reinstalling .net. wouldn't touch that crap. probably reinstalling would fix it but couldn't be bothered either.

workaround: start the launcher and quickly click play (or update) before the alert appears. game will launch, you can dismiss the alert, it only affects the launcher. why they needed .net for a freaking launcher is beyond me. i guess for all those super important ads.

Wouldn't touch that crap? .Net Framework is probably one of the most important things you can install on your computer and a requirement for lots of software / games...

i meant the crap of dealing with ever conflicting versions. a game should manage at least the requirements it imposes itself, and not requiring me to reinstall a dependency.

and besides more than half of the industry embracing it because obvious monopoly, it's still crap :) why? because i say so. if you don't agree, please be civil and write an open letter.

Cheers, znôrt, but I already did a complete re-install, and the error has gone. I had indeed been dodging it for a couple of weeks by a quick click, but figured update time was and could be fixing time.

PS Regarding open letters, isn't it possible that the signees didn't fully understand what they were signing up to? Maybe we need a second open letter? 😋

Usually it should be installed automatically, sometimes things go wrong though. It's not a Frontier thing by the way.

Just use Linux.
