I've read somewhere that Sol is the center(ish) of the bubble. I can't remember if it was one of Drew Wagner's books (which are approved by FDev as official lore) or a wiki article. If I ever encounter that reference again, I'll provide a quote.
Nemo, you think too much. Sometimes a cake is just a cake (and the bubble is just the bubble, not Colonia).
I'm just saying, today we measure and list everything in space from Earth, EVERYTHING. Once humans actully start expanding into space and traveling between stars, that will have to change to something, and to humans the best reference point will be SOL. Eventualy as we inhabit more of the area all around the center of galaxy, the center of the galaxy will become more conducive for measurements. I can't imagine the Thargoids use sol as a reference point in their navigational system. Not knowing exactly what part of total space they orginated from. But they would use one conducive to them.
Suppose for a moment ED eventually includes another galaxy such as Andromina. Would SOL be used in navigating one ways around Andromina, NO. Would they just pick some random star from the gazillon available there to use as we have here in the Milky Way, NO. Once we get to Andromina, measuring from the center of galaxies becomes more conducive. Thus using SOL here will no longer be a viaable option.
FDev utilizes know distance based on our way of measuring to day. Only becasue of our expansion into space isn't from Earth any more, it's became SOL. As the game progress's and humans expand even farther, staying in our galaxy, Sagitarious will be come the reference point.
Case in point, today humans use the distance from Earth to Andromina. And becasue the Earth is not a staionary object such as our star (SOL) the measurement is only an estimate. Once we have expanded into space as we have with ED, the distance is much more acurate useing SOL, because it's for the most part, a stationary object.
Why when we measure everything today from Earth, does FDev use SOL? The same reason will be the cause of SOL not being utilized when we start expanding farther thus closer to the center of galaxy.
Sol is a reference point and subject to being changed just as it was changed from Earth. But like the changing of pluto to it's new catorgory from it old one as a planet. Is still messing with people minds. So will measuring from SOL instead of Earth when humans start expanding into space.
Lore is important to this game, and keeping it up to par with reality is a real issue. That ED should be proud of.
When a mission milage is stated as a 10,000 ly's for instants which size and configuration of fsd are they utilizing. It makes a big difference. A ship with a 11,000 range make only one jump, a ship with a 900 range will have to do two jumps. Which means additonal ly's. So how does one figure the correct distance? A trip to colonia is about 22,000 ly's, ok, using which ship configured with what fsd and was it engineered or not. Does it include scoopable stars which one may Thusnot need and if so, why? Thus utilizing SOL as the main reference point is fast becoming a thing of the past, just like using Earth did, when we left it.
One wants and like lore, but it has to be blended with reality, and just like the reality of Pluto no longer being a planet. Reality is sometimes hard to swallow.
