Bug: launcher not working but different

So my launcher has been giving me this screen whenever I open it. I’ve gone through all the steps in the launcher troubleshooting. I’ve also reinstalled the game and still only get this message and cannot launch the game at all

The empty launcher is at least partly a Windows problem (that part of the Launcher is just a disguised browser window). But I can't read the important part of the launcher info - the small print right at the bottom where it states the Launcher version.

Next problem is that you need to log in - and here the difference between Steam and FD comes into play, so we'd need to know whether you bought ED via Steam or from FD directly (and if via Steam, roughly when).

So, what happens when you click on the "Log In" button?

You might be able to resolve the browser error by opening up a legacy control panel going to internet options, and clicking "reset all zones to default levels" under the security tab, then clearing the browser history.

Login issues are another matter.

The launcher is the most up to date version, I’ve owned the game for several years and had been playing it all week.
I’ve tried launching both through steam which the purchase is from, and direct launching from the EXE.

my last windows update was more than 10 days ago so I can’t roll that back.

the launcher does allow me to login and I have been able to unlink my account from that machine multiple times and log back in.
When logged in the play button doesn’t do anything and the main part of the launcher still gives me a “website unable to load” message.

So you get the play button but not the option to select what you want to play... FD and/or Steam support time, I think .

You are using a newer launcher version and almost certainly a new Windows 10 build than I typically use; either could be causing issues.

I know Microsoft has been rapidly depreciating legacy IE components, which the launcher uses do display the news page.

I can open the launcher through the Exe. Each option gives me play but pressing the button for all 4 options nothing is launched.

I had a suspicion the launcher page may be caused by IE. I’ve been using edge for awhile though so I haven’t personally changed any IE settings

Over the last few days I have seen that MS has been updating Edge to the new version on a lot of machines, I wonder if that has caused your issue.

I’ve had the new edge installed for a couple weeks. Actually and played the game fine for a week

yup I have edge no problem though I did reset internet explorer options in windows control panel to default with various resets within,as the launcher did initially misbehave
and not display correctly after edge update which reseting internet explorer resolved for me

Right click on your launcher
Select Properties
Select Compatibility Tab > Change high DPI settings
Check the box "Use this setting to fix scaling problems..."
In the box "Use the DPI that's set for my main display when" set to "I open this program"
In the "High DPI scaling override box " select the check box and set to "System"
Select ok
Select apply
Select ok

thanks - I had a different issue with the steam launcher, it showed me a cut off version of the Launcher homepage. The above helped - although I'm not sure whether I forgot the last two steps the first time round or whether "change for all users" the second time round was the key.

You can check if this is a .net runtime version problem.

Open your launcher config file [EDLaunch.exe.config] which should be in your elite install directory.

Mine contains the following section for supported .net runtimes (i have windows 10)

When you say "right click on your launcher," what exactly do you mean by that? I have right clicked all over the actual launcher window and don't ever get a contextual menu. When I right click over the actual icon, I don't see properties as an option.

Nevermind...i found it. The actual launcher exe file should be right clicked. Got it. And this worked for fixing my launcher.

Changing DPI scaling settings helps. I am still getting this for a few minutes, but it eventually loads the content in now, as opposed to being all distorted and cut up.

On the off chance this post is still active... I have this exact issue! The problem is when I do right click on my launcher I have no Compatibility tab, so I can't follow the steps to fix the janky looking launcher.

I'm using Windows 10 64 bit and updated to the latest updates. I have a feeling this is probably why, but since it's a common OS obviously I was hoping someone would know how to adjust the DPI scaling settings now?

(This always happens to me! Have problem, google solution, find solution, follow steps so far through, next option just doesn't exist for me haha. God I hate PC's).

For those who still can't find it, right click on the elite dangerous icon on your taskbar, then right click on ED launcher, and then properties. The compatibility tab will be under that.
