building on & off grid

Hi all.

I watched the live streams and building demos over the last few days. I have a question about the grid system.

Now I should say I don't have the game yet, so apologies if this is a simple thing. But it seemed to me from watching the demos that when constructing a building you are fixed to the same 90 degree angle snaps on walls and roofs as you were in rct3.

I know you can take a finished building and then rotate the whole thing to any angle, but can you construct a building with multi angle pieces initially?

Can you rotate building objects around any axis, so for example have a wall on a slope instead of perpendicular to the ground?

By way of example let's say I wanted to create an octagonal building. This requires walls at angles more than 90 degrees to each other. Can it be done?

Not currently. There was a bug when alpha 2 came out which allowed you to use advanced rotation on building as well as scenery pieces. They quickly fixed that saying it wasn't intended

Quite a few on this forum complained about it at the time .There's probably a good reason for it but for whatever reason the devs are being quite cagey about the exact reason (other than it wasn't intended).

Alpha 3 in introducing some things like path snapping to buildings, I wonder if that might be part of the reason why they are restricting things (otherwise glitchy path stuff might happen). Also might be an important restriction for collision detection or something.

In alpha3, you can build complex Buildings with multiangle, by creating one Construction into another. At the end, you can Multiselect everything and save your Multibuilding into one Blueprint..

i think that's better than nothing right now :D

I found this interesting when I saw it in the live streams, but I can't remember if they demo'd this and brought the building back into the game - will it be then just ONE building or will it be multiple buildings (as created), if one building then it will probably have multiple grids in it - First thing to test out I think!
