Buying Platinum?

I saw a bulletin board message asking for Platinum, offering a large reward.
So I took it on, but I can't find anywhere that actually sells Platinum.
Surely it must be available in a commodity market somewhere?
I've looked at a few different trade tools and none seem to have Platinum to buy anywhere.
I know it can be mined but there must be somewhere it can just be bought too?

To the best of my knowledge, platinum, painite and osmium can only be mined in this game. I've heard rumors that platinum could be bought somewhere, but never seen an actual location.

This is correct and the rumors were just trying to fool you. They are indeed only acquired through mining.

That is what I have found.

It does seem strange that there are commodities in the game that can't be bought at any price. There should always somewhere to buy anything, even if it's prohibitively expensive....

Seems logical but for gameplay purposes it gives a good reason to mine to find said rare resources. It also allows them to skew the mining payout a little more because you can't mine as fast as you can trade.*
Finally It allows for more variance in things like community goals, I don't really like to mention this since the one and only mining CG was borked from day 1 but the principal is there...

*In a way they tried to use the black market to adjust pirating profits but found people doing smuggling could exploit it using huge trading ships to generate unreasonable profit. What I'm really trying to say is that the commodities market is a plague on balancing profession incomes :p

I might just have to convert one of my ships for mining at some point, I must admit it isn't something that's appealed to me so far.

I've been known to drop a few bars for someone who needs 'em, who's taken the mission and can't complete it. But that's dependent on them coming to me, and me having a few bars in the hold. :)

It is not a 'properly' working market. There are lots of things that make no sense. Just add it to the list.

I know 2 for platinum. Have a nice time searching. :p

Nobody will tell u the location my friend because of the bg-sim. The route would dry out in hours.;)

Being less sarcastic screenshots or it didn't happen, you can blank the system name if you want.
