Buying Second Copy of Elite Dangerous from Frontier Store

Hello. I initially bought Elite Dangerous off Steam around December of 2019. Due to Steam family sharing with my son, I can't always play Elite when he's playing my other games on Steam as it will not allow both of us to play at the same time, even if it's different games.

Because of all the time I've spent on the game and the fact that I bought it on sale, I'm more than willing to buy it again from the Frontier Store so I don't rely on Steam to play Elite.
My question is, if I buy it from the Frontier Store, install it with Frontier's installer (therefore no longer using the Steam version), do I simply login using my existing Frontier Account details on the new installation and I won't lose any of my progress? I asked this question on reddit as well and unfortunately nobody could really give me a conclusive answer (though 1 person said from their research it wouldn't work).

Thanks in advance

For anyone who is wondering about if this worked or not, I took the plunge and bought another copy off Frontier. Once this was done, I didn't even have to download the second copy since Elite Dangerous from the Frontier Store was now attached to my Frontier account.

I just launched "EDlaunch.exe" (which was already in my Steam installation folder) and just hit options and then logged off. I then logged back in with my Frontier credentials and everything worked smoothly.
