Great video, thanks for the heads up
I hadn't seen that video before but it does explain things reall well.
I like the non-combat exercises he gave as they are a really good way of getting used to flying with thrusters.
Some tips of my own for getting used to thrusters:
Try setting the throttle to zero and flying using only thrusters. You can reach the same top speed with forward thrusters to full as by setting throttle to 100%.
I like the exercise that VJ showed with flying around an asteroid. Getting used to flying in a direction other than the one you are pointing is key to getting your head around how the thrusters work. Take a look around the outside of an Orbis space station, staying as close as possible with nose always pointing at the station.
Go gully grinding. Most canyon running is done at high speed at hundreds of metres altitude. Gully grinding is about getting and staying really low. Try to keep >75m altitude so the terrain radar shows at all times. This is lower than you think! Get as low and as fast as you can. Thruster use is essential. Use a small cheap ship with the strongest shields you can fit. Accidents will happen.
Always dock at zero throttle using thrusters only.
Its really all about practising and getting used to moving your ship on all six axis. If you become comfortable with thruster use outside of combat you will find yourself starting to use it naturally when in combat.
