Engineers Can I disable the engineers patch?

There is the small problem that 1.6 users exist in the the same universe/instance as 2.1 users... Me=Duh!

Sure but honestly what's the proportion of 1.6 players who are going to leave the game because the materials drops are spamming their radar, compared to the number of players who will buy the expansion because there's all that unused stuff they can't take advantage of... ? ;)

I would like to know this before...

exiting from the superface when you are "inside" the planet has been a very... traumatic experience (especially for my canopy :) )

I am wondering if there is an ini file or something that I can turn this patch off with?

I ask because I find very little reason to engade at all with this content. Unfortunately the content is getting in the way of my playing. Like when I am pirate hunting at an extraction site. With all the crap being dropped by ships eventually my radar looks like a snow globe. When I am mining my drones will stop because my material storage is full. Constant interdictions from pirates that are WAY over leveled.

What do I get in return for all of these issues? A grindy, overly random wild goose hunt. Where the design philosophy seems to be " how do we force players to stay". Which ironically has the opposite effect. Not " How do we make players come back wanting more."

I say kill it with fire. Redesign the entire patch from the ground up. Until then. Can I disable it?

------ I have added this because I dont think my post is all that constructive ----

Here is what I would add to the patch to make it more fun. Not one asked but I think it is only fair to be more constructive with my complaints.

Firstly I would add a players auction house. This way people can buy the mats they need from other players. This will also open up another avenue of play where players can make some good cash hunting down rare resources.

Secondly I would add a threat level on systems. If enough players hunts down pirates in that area threat level will go down. Making it safe for newer players. So fewer over powered spawns. Then increase the bounty on overpowered spawns by 2x-3x. Making them worth hunting down for seasoned players.

Thirdly. Kill the randomness from the engineers entirely. Also kill the tierd upgrades. Instead each upgrade has 5 "unlockable" slots. Once you gain rep you can then unlock more of these slots. These slots represent optional addons to the upgrade. So for example you have a base upgrade, which is very cheap, that increases your lasers damage by 20% but increases the power draw to 40%. A optional addon slot would decrease power draw by 20% but requires rare matts to do so. Maybe a second upgrade slot would increase fire range by 10%. That will also require a rare matt but because you have 2 optional extra upgrade you have just increases the base cost with 2 common and one uncommon matt. This should make it rewarding enough for new players to want to engage from the very start of play. But alow enough head room for seasoned players to really tweak their kitt if they are willing to pay the crazy cost of a full 5 slot upgrade.

Fourthly. For god/gods/spaghetti monsters sake. NEVER(!!) make a player grind pointless upgrades to unlock another tier. Make it anything else. Brides, favours of a dodgy nature or even things that will make you lay awake at night regretting ones actions. Just no pointless upgrade grinding.

Fifthly. Add more kitt into the game to help people track down resources. Planet surface scanners. Astriod scanners. Ship scanners. Add what you need to the game to make it a viable build for players who wants to make money from it. When combined with the auction house.

Sixth-ly. Add options to your radar to remove the clutter for players who wants to avoid the snowglobe effect.

Its pretty trivial to level each engineer to reputation level 3. It seems to me like you dont even want to care to read and educate yourself on what to do.

You assume to much sir. I do in fact know how it works. That is why I know it is not fun. I find it interesting when someone has a different opinion there will always be that small sub group who just cant understand how someone could possibly have a different opinion. What are they stupid? Are they just lazy? No they must just be haters! Or something down that line of thought.

What ever happened to narrative crafting? There engineers are individuals with back story, history and personality right? So why not craft a series of mission one needs to undergo in order to rank up with them? Increase the difficulty for each rank so someone in a cobra should be able to get to rank one. Someone in a vulture should get to rank two. Python for rank 3. Maybe make people team up with other players to do rank 5. Make people think about different builds and game play in order to do the missions. Maybe give the player a special ship just for the missions. There is so much one could do it is actually crazy.

But no. Filling a bar is just as good right?

I'd have no complaint with any of the suggestions mentioned in the OP"s edit. You've got my agreement about RNGineers frustration, and my vote!

edit: Though I do have to point out there *are* alternative methods now available for reputation with the Engineers...though for a few of them it's still excessively grindy.

Yes that is true. But I think that the guys making the game should ask the question. Where is the fun? Every step they take .... every move they make..... ..... ... Sorry had that song stuck in my head this morning.

Is spending several hours filling a bar fun? The answer to that should be "no"!

If the question they are asking is "How can we keep players from blasting though the content and get OP ships on day one?". Then they are asking the wrong question. They will end up hurting their game in the long run. Make getting the ranks easy/fun. Make finding the rare resources needed for the big upgrades hard. Make the low tied upgrades cheap and super easy to get so even someone in a sidwinder could get them.

That is what I would do. Then put in a auction house and gear to find those resources resulting in an entirely new way of playing elite.

About 7 months ago I proposed limpets were given a filter... Materials would fit into that too - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-jettisoned-(unwanted)-cargo?highlight=limpet
