Can I Run Elite

I don't think the game addresses more than 4GB of RAM, at least for now in the Beta, so that should be all you need.

Hopefully the full game as well :p

I'll have the game a few days before my RAM upgrade... shame that's not a digital download eh, hopefully ill be ok for a few day's on 2GB

I'm running on a stock 2.4GHz Q6600 quad-core, 8GB DDR2 ram and initially found the beta was unplayable with the pair of elderly Nvidia 9800GT Extreme cards that were in it -even SLI'd.

Swapped the graphics cards out for a new £100 GTX 750Ti (2GB) and it's quite happy now. CPU usage is pretty high in and around space stations but I'm getting 30fps there and around 40-50fps in open space.
Hopefully this will remain the case come release, but it's saved a full upgrade in the meantime :D

If that's true i think I'm in trouble... your specs are equal and better than mine, hopefully your just a trollairr :) ill just have to wait and find out i guess.

I think SLI is to blame here (not supported yet) and not your cards per se.

Heard lots of guys running on pretty low setup but have great results... you may wanna hold your horse and wait till the game is release to do a proper upgrade cos you may never need it!! They are still optimising the game .

I have an i3, 4gb ram, and had a 6450 and to be honest didn't even try it.

If you DO want to upgrade your GPU and happen to have a 300w PSU I will second the recommendation of a GTX 750 (preferably 2gb and ti version). I get 30-60fps with the above setup. AFAIK it's the fastest card you can get without a bigger PSU - of course if yours is 400-500W+ then you have other options.

Cheers man, i have a really low end i think compared to most... it's not the worst, but defo not the best, I'll be upgrading RAM and that should do it, i upgraded my CPU yesterday and OMG! the results are very noticable

"Didn't even try it"? The game?

Edit - oh i get you, GFX card, no worries man :)
I'm more bothered about RAM and CPU

I meant in-game settings, but cheers anyways man :)

Fullscreen
1920 * 1080
refresh 60hz
vsync on (which locks fps to 60 max)

texture high
shadow medium
bloom on
anti alias FXAA
planet quality high
galaxymap high
light cone low (never used lights yet)
lens flare off ( because it's too much, lol)

Haha, good call on that lens flare :p
If your running fine on your build, I foresee no problems :)
Nice one man, appreciate it.

Sorry my bad, they were 9600Gt extremes I took out not 9800's, edited post to clarify that. Yeah doubt SLI made much difference, unless specifically supported. End of the day they're old cards, I think barely dx10.0 and with few shader units compared to today's tech.
Trollaire? Nope.
Was just posting hoping it'd help you & others with older rigs to get an idea of performance following a gpu upgrade. Mine rig's 6-7 years old & so I wasn't surprised it had difficulty. Seems the beta is currently more GPU bound than CPU at the moment for old systems. I decided to risk a new video card to play the beta having seen other users with the same CPU do the same. It hits around 75% over all 4 cores around stations.
I certainly won't upgrade further though until the final release, and if my rig is good enough to run as smoothly as it is now then I'll be happy to hang onto it for a few more years!

Op=original poster btw.

Thank's Andy, yeah i looked up the wrong card aswell as you putting the wrong one up haha, what do you find the RAM consumption to be man?

Hey guys, i was wondering if anyone here is using a low end, and can give me 1st hand impressions on lag etc...

My Build- (yeah, it's not the best, try not to laugh too hard)

OS - Windows 7, 64bit
Motherboard - ASRock > G31M - S
CPU - Intel Core2 Quad-Core CPU Q8200
RAM - 2x 1GB - Upgrading to 2x 2GB

Until recently, I had a seven year old Q6600 machine with 6 GB RAM and an nVidia GT 630 and it struggled a bit playing Elite. Nothing to laugh about, it's a pretty capable computer. I upgraded mine because of the noise levels, power requirements and well, so I could play ED better. ;)

The improvement was marked, but not as marked as all that because I didn't change the graphic card.

Hey Alexios, when it was struggling, was you on lowest graphics settings, or high?

Sorry - I wasn't very clear at all - yes, I didn't even bother trying the game with the 6450 since I saw that its performance was supposedly on a par with Intel graphics so assumed it would be a waste of time.

have only done a very quick test, so don't read too much into it - looks like it's just using around 550-600MB for the most part, peaks to 800MB when starting the waste-disposal training mission and reduces again ... how representative is that right now though? probably not very... There'll be lots more ship types flying around at the same time and other future assets so usage is likely to increase I'd think... Also it's possible that resources are being held directly on graphics card too rather than local memory, so what may seem like low system memory requirement might be helped by my system having 2gb on the video card now.
It seems you've more memory on the way though, so you should be fine on that front once it arrives. Btw, if you've got 4 slots on your motherboard and it hadn't crossed your mind, are you able to add the 2x2gb cards as well as the 1x2gb for 6gb total... you've got win7 64bit so the more the merrier to give the OS and anything else elbow space!

I'll do a more thorough test on memory usage when I'm actually sitting at my PC playing a proper session... just been experimenting tonight with Steam streaming to my laptop - as this is likely how I'll have to play without 'the other half' leaving me, lol.
Need to figure out how to get my controller working but otherwise seems to run smoothly @1440x900 over WIFI (N) to my 5yr old laptop (4GB, upgraded to 2.5ghz T9300 core duo, 9600M GT mxm2 video and can't handle lowest settings right now). But I get 40-50fps streaming to it at this lower resolution, response seems pretty much instant, so I'll be chuffed to bits if I can 'be sociable' and do some trading at a weekend while pretending to watch that x-factor nonsense :D

yeah man, seems low usage for now, and no on the 4slots front, it's a really old MB only 2slots. Luckily Ive had years of experience getting the most out of my PC, on start-up I'm only running 35-39 processes, and very rarely reach over 42.

Thanks man :)
