Can Information Kiosks please have other uses other than just selling priority passes?

Park Maps, Umbrellas, Ponchos, Little Souvenirs, Alternate ATM, Other Information.

I don't really use priority pass and I made one coaster use one just to keep the Information Kiosks open! In real parks they're used for so much more.

Would be great even if they're just glorified park map stands. A park's gotta have a park map.

I agree :)

Personally i would like if Info shops can sell park tickets as well.

I really don't like the way the tickets are used now. All guests seem to buy them "online" and can enter the park entrance without doing anything. There isn't even an employee to hand out a ticket or collect money. I would love if info shops could sell tickets. So you always have to place 1 or more info shops outside of your park where guests can buy their tickets and then they can enter your park through the park gates.

It would give the info shop a lot more importance. Ofcourse selling other stuff like maps would help as well :)

If I remember correctly guests were able to find rides much easier in the early rct games with a park map. This would definately be a nice feature.

Also umbrellas plz

For umbrellas to be useful,, it would have to rain, which it doesn't do. Park Maps would be handy to have in there though helping peeps figure out a direction ahead of time. In game it may not have any effect really.. but just one of those little touches that would be nice though, In my sandbox park I rarely sell any priority passes and the info booth keeps closing. Then again.. all my shops keep closing which is annoying

Well perhaps they could also be used to distribute promotional material(At a cost) that helps you direct traffic towards underused sections of your park.(Things like coupons perhaps?) Another idea would be interactive widgets(Like the wands from the Harry Potter park that can be used to activate triggered event nodes that can be placed along the paths like benches and bins...)

Umbrellas/ponchos would be great, but we need rain first (I'm sure well get it eventually but it needs optimizing). Little souvenirs?? I want big souvenirs, lets see our guests winning big prizes and carrying them around! Alternate ATM and other information?? Not sure what that means

RCT also had much less advanced AI

I dont think that applying another item for sale would change guest behavior. The way the guest AI works is a bit strange and has been discussed a lot around here, because it could definitely use some improvements. But a lot of people feel like guests are "too smart" right now as they dont wander around randomly or get lost ever, they always have a specific destination they go directly towards.

As for broke guests staying in parks, I don't know what to think. After reading a few threads on the PC forums, I came to the conclusion that increasing the # of times guests use an ATM would only make the game that much easier/less challenging, and I don't think thats what anybody wants. The same could also be applied to broke guests, other people have suggested lowering prices in-order to keep guests happier for longer, then you raise your chances of them using an ATM, otherwise you risk them not leaving your park right away.

Another problem people have is that paid entrance fees don't work in a realistic way or they don't make enough profits. But again, you could say this is the developers way of trying to add management or challenging aspects to the game.

We can also pretend that parks either give out free maps automatically, or that guests have a map already on their phones (as many real life parks are now doing) but adding an item for sale called "maps" will not change the way guests think. If you want guests to know what the price of a ride ahead of time, then suggest that on the official PC forums, but I don't think its the most important thing the devs need to work on right now

I will never build a fast pass, I just dont like it for many reasons. But I do not care about needing an information booth, if anything they should just be called priority booths or park center or something different, at least untill other items can be sold at them

^ I think I was just saying make them glorified park map stands with the aim of being able to keep them open without having to have a ride with priority pass. But park maps could change the gameplay a little bit.

Yes! I have empty ticket booths out the front of my park and it'd be great if guests could simply go there before they enter the park.

Selling maps would look great! It would be nice if you can see people with maps in their hand!

I actually think this is a good idea as it is what I have seen in many real world parks. You go to a ticket booth - or in this case an information kiosk - to purchase your tickets and then proceed to enter the park afterwards.

Indeed [happy]

That way it makes sense if they also sell maps and stuff as usually you buy those -before- you really enter the park :)
(Thanks for your support on this case :D )

To be honest, It has been a long while for me that I actually bought an park map. These are nowadays free for grabs at most parks.

Of course, as an added feature for the kiosk it would be nice.

Thats the good thing about being able to set prices. You can set the park map prize at zero i guess? [big grin]

Even if you just had the kiosk offer maps you could choose if they pay or not like everything else. And it still requires the devs to re-write some code so that all guests don't know where everything is but rather it should be I feel like this:

  • Guest arrives
  • Guest has 75% of not knowing anything as they have not downloaded the map on the phone app or similar
  • Guest then has 'X'% chance that they want to buy a map
  • Information Kiosk is assumed to be sign posted from entrance so they know rough direction of where to walk
  • Guests have the ability to know what is around them within 'X' distance as if there are sign posts around them stating things like "toilets" or "roller coaster"
  • Guests who have gone to kiosk and now have map are able to locate everything they need to find somewhere instantaneously
  • Guests who don't wonder more to discover

This would really be some smart AI with different options and chances of things happening and how they interact with the park. You make it difficult to get to the kiosk then more will wonder till they get a map, they may get distracted by a need and thus not make it to the kiosk and so be searching for said "toilet" or "food stall" as an example. After that they may say there is a ride here and then after that go back to getting a map.

It opens up the AI to feel more dynamic in choice and not be so strict on what they do.

paper maps and souvenir maps are different though. I've seen some parks in the past offer much nicer maps for a price. I don't know.. just something else you could make money from rather the peeps actually need it or not.. I mean.. they don't need robin hood hats to enjoy the par.. but they buy them anyway lol..

I was going to say the same thing...it would be great to sell other objects, but maps are generally free everywhere now-a-days.

Still would be kind of cool to see some guests pick up and carry around a park map, or perhaps a "Wand" or other object that can be used at designated "Trigger" points that you can place along the path like benches and bins to activate any trigger-able scenery objects...

yep - it would be cool...just didn't think it would be something to generate income (as far as the map goes). and I know this has been mentioned before...cell phones. Most parks have apps that have a map as part of them. Guests checking the phone (for texts, to look at the map, or whatever) would be a great animation to add.

I suppose the price you set the park map depends on how you want guests to navigate. Want most guests to wander, fine make it a souvenir map you pay for. Want more customers to walk out of their way for a ride, make them free.

This could be influenced by your park design. Got a sprawling park with a fair walk between things? Might want a map to attract people.

Really compact park where it's never more than 20m to a choice of shops and rides... Probably don't need to give a free park map.

You could even have brands sponsor your map with adverts. They pay you (to cover the costs of the map), and their shops increase in popularity. (Like their shops have been advertised / got bigger labels in the map).

Park maps would be great but they need to have some kind of gameplay element for there to be a point. Guests don't get lost like in RCT so you'd definitely want to add that back in. Maybe if a guest has a map, they'll queue up rides like a playlist vs a guest that doesn't have a map wanders around a lot more and just rides what they see nearby.

I remember in an old interview they talked about lost guests getting separated from their group but that didn't make it to the final game, I could see them gathering at a nearby Information, waiting for their group to show up. A Park Map app would also be cool where you see guests pull out their phones. You could charge more for the app than a paper one.
