Newcomer / Intro Can Not Fire Weapons

New ship, FAS, I outfitted it with weapons and stuff. Now tho, I go to a High extraction site and find a target and deploy my weapons. I line up and click the fire buttons and nothing happens. I have the weapons assigned to fire groups and according to modules screen they are at 100% health and the power supply and distributor have plenty of power to service them BUT THEY WILL NOT FIRE! I had this happen once before and had to scrap the whole ship to solve it.

What am I doing wrong???

Sounds like a bindings problem to me.
Check your .binds file to see which buttons are assigned to the weapons.
Check your .start file to see which bindings file Elite is supposed to be using.

If you're using a joystick you may need to load a separate file for that.

If the target is above you and the weapons are on the bottom of your ship they won't fire as you would be shooting your own ship. Could that be the issue?

Did you try cycling through the weapons groups?
this maybe ^
sometimes it looks particular firegroup is active (you can see it on your HUD), but actually it isn't ... have to switch-cycle firegroups ... it happens occasionaly ..

I've tried all of the suggestions here. I have the proper bindings set or my other ships would not work. My weapons are colored, Here is a short video demonstrating the problem...

Those are turrets (see that little "tank" icon next to the wapon name.)
If you want to fire them by pressing the trigger, switch them to "Target only" in the Functions tab on the right panel. Or "forward only" mode, which is fixed forward (but the turrets do lots less damage than proper fixed weapons. You probably have them set up to "fire at will" which means that they only fire in self defense and you can't control them. (on a traget attacking you)

But most importantly - DON'T USE TURRETS ON AN ASSAULT SHIP! That's just.. wrong. :D
Go and buy gimbals or fixed weapons. (they have"orbit" and "target" icons)

maybe .... try to choose your faction (right panel/Functions) first. You are in CZ and it seems all ships/targets are neutral to you currently. Maybe it has something to do with those turrets. I'm not sure - never used those turreted weapon yet ...

Ignore the luddites, turrets are fine if over nerfed.

When using them go to the functions panel and set them to target only.

And just to be sure swap one of them for a gimballed weapon on the same fire group and trigger, that will ensure that they will start to fire when you pres the trigger.

I'm no Luddite, I love turrets, I use lots of turrets, but on the slow turning vessels they were designed for. On the FAS, one of the fastest most agile killing machines in the game, you are just throwing your damage away.

Thanks you all... I guess I've just been lucky in the past and not had this problem. I set them to fire at target and they worked. I'll look at replacing them. I'm not exactly new... have about a month of playing time... but I guess in the gaming world that is a newbe.... Geez!

You will get a lot of different advice on what weapons to use, and it's all pretty solid.

In the end though, Elite really comes down to what you like for your own ship. If you like the turrets and you're effective in combat.. then by all means keep them. You don't necessarily have to be 'optimal' in order to be effective. Still, it's solid advice to give some Gimbaled weapons a try and see how you like them. On a faster ship like the FAS they will provide a hefty damage increase over turreted weapons.

Turrets are great, but as said above, they're generally made for larger, slower ships. They are the least damaging of the 3 types of hardpoints (Fixed, Gimbaled, Turreted.)
