Newcomer / Intro Can someone please explain how I can get Atypical Disrupted Wake Echoes?

The wake scanner doesn't work and someone in my group told me to scan a crashed ship, but I also didn't get anything there. These engineers are really ing me off.

I seem to recall if you go into an encoded USS sometimes there are data beacons and you can get them from there.

inara has a good list of where all materials come from

Sometimes you can get them as a mission reward so look out for that.
Otherwise, just keep scanning high wakes, whenever you see one (around stations, RES,...) and pray RNGeezus will smile upon ya. :)

Your WS needs to be in range also. Better grade ones offer a greater range and you can engineer them as well. Also, you need to assign the scanner to a fire group. (Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs :) )

I don't understand the problem in finding these, they are the most common wake data - I fill up with these in no time outside stations. DWE now they are a pain with the dearth of famine states so I just trade data from Jameson's Cobra or the Bug Killer.

If your wake scanner isn't working you need to check a few things - correct HUD mode, fire group assigned, hardpoints extended, power OK in the modules tab and finally be within the range of the grade of scanner you have fitted.

Scanning the comms points at Jameson's Cobra or the Bug Killer wreckage gives you high grade data which you can trade for wake stuff at a correct type of material trader.

Wake scanners do work - learn to use them. Crashed ships do give data, learn how to scan them. Don't rush engineering, or you might get annoyed. I thought your plan was to go an explore outside the bubble - no need for engineering to do that...

try sitting in supercruise at a stop...near a hi traffic area like an extraction site - 50+ls away...
scanning all the ships coming and going in sc will get you loads of Atypical disrupted wake echoes
no wake scanner required

wake scanner is more for DWE, EHT..

if you are low on data and/or new to the game...try making it a habit to always be scanning all ships when in SC and normal space....
