The building system in PC is quite advanced. You probably noticed that when you build walls at a 90 degree angle, the edges of the wall pieces change to 45 degrees to avoid Z-fighting. This (among other things) is probably the reason why it's not as easy to implement without breaking other aspects of the building system.
Nevertheless I also hope that at some point they find a way to implement this feature.
its less a problem of implementation and more of that they just dont want to do it, there was a bug that allowed this in alpha 2, silvarret built an entire park using this bug nearly, didnt seem to break anything, and they patched it out, the community of course was very dissapointed, and they only ever said "this was not intended"
to expand, the bug was, if you grabbed a piece that could advance rotate and went into the advanced rotation using ctrl+x or whatever it is, you could then select a different piece, whether it was grid based or not, and it would let you rotate it with the advanced rotation.

Hold on! Surely 'this glitch' or the idea of it and its flexibility was a good thing overall, so why did they not advance on this?
they never gave a reason, they just said it was not intended, a few creators built entire parks nearly with it, and it didnt seem to break anything or hurt performance, so they probably just thought it would create issues or confusion with users.
