Can you PLEASE fix the shadows already?

They need to update so many visuals anyway. I hope their year-long timeline just consists of an overhaul. They need ray or path tracing and better lighting altogether. Im very disturbed when my PC can play Spider-Man or Rachet and Clank with full RTX at 100fps+ on a 1440p monitor, but can't muster 25 quality frames per second for a barren planet with a single outpost on Elite. Like guys--holy moly--hire Acerola for your API or something. A single coding hobbyist is doing bits while this whole team is dragging their feet.

Today I remembered that a couple of years ago I made a video to demonstrate driving an SRV with a game controller (and drive assist off). This was before Update 18.

Notice how shadows don't turn off and on at random, and aren't clipped in any way. Particularly notable at the end of the video, where I'm approaching my ship: The shadow stays perfect the entire time. This is how it used to be before Update 18!

Can you please, PLEASE, restore the shadows to this working state? It has been over a year already.

Just look at this. Looks very nice:

However, take a step back, and what happens? This:

It's ridiculous. It's annoying. Not only does it look obviously wrong and annoying, but it also breaks immersiveness and enjoyability of the game when shadows are popping in and out, being randomly cut by some clipping planes for no reason.

As much as I agree with the OP's sentiment, but when players continue to spend on the game and keep playing (therefore contributing to favourable player stats that I'm sure shareholders will be happy about), there isn't really a big incentive on Frontier to fix this. It's "just" visuals, you can still engage with the grind et al. I don't expect anything to happen anytime soon, and yes it has been a major reason to put me off playing the game (thankfully other games still have working shadows!), though it is sad that Frontier are letting the game deteriorate on a technical level like this but don't mind churning out overpriced DLC at the same time.

Buy Arx, I guess.

One of my hopes (a fools hope for sure) is that there’s someone, somewhere at fdev, with a bit of professional pride, and every time they play the game or watch an otherwise gorgeous video by Exorcist, the Buur’s or some other prominent videographer and see the shadows turning on and off and ruining it, a little bit of them dies inside and they go and investigate, find the problem and plead with management to let them fix it.

I wonder if we could persuade our film makers (and I guess I should put myself in that camp) to deliberately highlight the worst of the shadows rather than carefully editing their camera angles and output to try and avoid them?

A concerted month long campaign of really horrible looking videos perhaps … #FixTheShadows
