General / Off-Topic Can you recognize this object?

Hi,

Can you recognize this object?

at first, I thought it was a piece of outdoor 'gym' equipment for kids, but then the chilling reality slowly crept in.

not a hoax, a real piece of history.

have at it ;)

I could say it was on an old ship (ie Pirates Of The Carribean) but it looks metal, so I'll guess that it was from Victorian debtor prisons where they'd make the prisoners push something like that around in an endless circle for no reason other than something to make them do.

It's the remnaints of NASA's flying table program of the 1970's :D

Seriously though it's some kind of windlass I think Alien got it pretty spot on......

I'm with Dr Wookie on this, A prop from 2001 would be my guess.

I am not sure, perhaps part of a radiation & fallout detector, possibly connected to an old government bunker under the earth near by? It does look like the 2001 space station though. A thought, if it really is part of the movie prop, perhaps David should buy it for the front of the FD offices? A better fate than just laying in a field forgotten.

Nah, the guy who took the photos went back to get it the next day and it had been smashed to bits by kids.

Sad really.

Yah, dunno why people seem to get so much joy from tearing things down. We should be teaching kids to create, not destroy.

like mom used to say: "...And THAT's why we can't have nice things!" :p

as kids, we found 'entrance' into a building next door that was going to be torn down.

inside, was a perfect 1950s-era pinball machine. I was thinking about how to get it over to our house when I heard a tremendous breaking of glass.

....my brother dropped a gigantic rock on the playfield.

thanks all for the additional information about the curious fate of Space Station V - truly bizarre.

as thanks, I offer another rotting relic - the remains of Star Trek's "Galileo" shuttle.

I don't think it exists anymore. As Scotty might say "She's lost structural integrity, Captain".
