Cannot bring myself to finish the grind for Triple Elite.

It is true. If you have been playing this game for some time. VR makes everything better again.

Flimley
True, but I just find the controls (keyboard/mouse) such a bind (do you see what I did there?) to use with VR it turns me off it :(

I'm one of those double-elitists (trade and exploration). Cuz I do more of those 2 things than combat. But I just turned Dangerous in Combat. So I'm getting there, slowly ;)

Having spent two years playing on PS4 and reaching Elite in exploration and trading, I can no longer see myself carrying on to reach elite in combat. I have unlocked most of the engineers and all the ships, but unfortunately this is where it ends for me.

A couple of days ago I took the plunge and bought a mid range gaming PC, bought Elite Dangerous again, hooked up my PSVR using iVry, and all I can say is WOW, what an experience!

The game will never be the same for me again and I am so looking forward to starting from scratch, playing in a more dangerous environment and experiencing everything the game has to offer. I am even looking forward to the work required for unlocking the engineers.

I am playing as CMDR meSidious and look forward to meeting you all in the black. o7 Commanders!
What control set up are you using?

I can see you view point there. I would imagine that combination near impossible.
I use X-52pro and mouse. No keyboard needed. \o/

Triple elite is something that will happen eventually anyway. I'm still not there, but i don't feel compelled to work towards it.
Quite.
I actively avoid combat since I don't want my combat rank to go up... That is meant to come with tougher opponents and given I usually fly exploration or multi-role builds* that is not a great idea.

* and I'm also a rubbish combat pilot which doesn't help.

I should imagine Voice Attack would come in useful here .... but I have to admit, I bought a couple of VA packs and haven't been bothered to set them up so far.

FWIW, I have a T16000M + TWCS (thrusters) and it's perfect. The additional axis + 4-way-buttons on the TWCS make all the difference. Actually, I left all the buttons on the main stick base unmapped even. Don't use the keyboard anymore except for chat (thru the nose gap). Plus mouse (for FSS) and VA, but I use the latter only for immersion reasons (commanding my SLF pilot around by voice, for instance). Had a TFlight HOTAS before and was content too, using shift buttons though. Keyboard and VR don't go together too well, but the TFlight is definitely workable. Bind grind, ok.

VA is a nice addition in general and greatly recommended. You can simply say "Jump!" and it makes it so!

O7,
🙃

I didn't rush anything with Commander ranks.

I have 2 accounts. Both are Elite trade. One is Elite Exploration. Elite trade happened quickly in both accounts. No reason to grind that or pay any attention. Exploration is not a grind unless you hate it (but I love it, so one 50kly exploration trip got me from Harmless to Elite). I did not set out to get Elite rank, it wasn't a concern. The goals were making $$$ and discovering new systems, planets, black holes, rare objects.

Combat, I have one account that is Deadly 40% from incidental combat over the years. Another is Dangerous from the same method. Incidental combat from playing.

The closer one gets to an Elite goal the more grinding it becomes if that is all they are looking at versus just playing the game and letting it happen. Been there and done that.

Me too. :D

I did set one of them up (William Shayner), and tried it once, but haven't used it again. I keep meaning to test them out, as I'm sure I could make great use of it if I put some effort in (I think that every time I screw up PIP management while fighting - it would be so much easier just to say "Power to engines"). The other pack I got was Brian Blessed.

It's the ability to customise the command packs that really make these work so well, having the chit-chat and characterisations are a nice bonus. Despite having my pips management set to a hat switch on my HOTAS I use VA to issue a one word set command for each type of pip management I need e.g. "Banzai" works for 0-2-4, "Recover" is 4-2-0, "Prowl" sets pips to 2-4-0 etc etc - it works very well and is far quicker than I can manipulate a hat switch. Though voice recognition requires clear, and clearly different, words to be use which is why my commands may sound a bit daft :)

OT - Not too fussed about ranks, I'm currently the typical Elite in exploration and trading whilst sitting around 25% Deadly; and the combat rank has come from finding I really enjoy designing builds and trying them out in Res sites.
