Cannot Change Ship Livery - Error Equipping Item

Hi

I'm in my Beluga Liner, at Abraham Lincoln, attempting to apply a different livery to the ship. It's a colour scheme I have in my library, and one I have used before. But I keep getting an error Equipping Item pop up. I've tried a different colour - no joy. I have saved and closed down the game, restarted and tried again - no joy. I also cannot change the decals on that ship.

I can change the ship's two SRV livery with no proplems.

I can also change the livery of my other ships with no proplem. It just happens to be my Beluga with the proplem.

Has anybody else experienced this proplem? If so, how did you remedy it?

Thank you

Have you tried restarting the game? If so, have you restarted your console? Might sound dumb but sometimes it works.

May be a stupid question, but, is the paint scheme you bought for the ship you want to paint, or is it for another type of ship. I mean paint packages do not transfer from one type of ship to another. My Pyhon and Vette have to have their own specific paint jobs, and are not interchangeable.

Paintjobs only show in the livery outfitting for the ship you are currently using. I think its safe to assume therefore that myrm is selecting an available paintjob for the current ship, as paintjobs for other ships would not be shown and so could not cause an error.

Had an issue where my AspX Tactical liveries disappeared for a day, then reappeared next time I restarted, but nothing like this.

KK, so I have found out why the paintjob cannot be applied to the ship, even though it's in my library and has been used before.

The problem seems to be caused by the (engineered) modification on the thruster module. One of the negative effects of this modification has reduced the maximum mass the thrusters can move. The ship is slightly heavier than the modified maximum.

The outfitter will always check if a ship is exceeding its maximum weight before changing the ships loadout. Due to the modification, this check will currently always fail and no changes are possible, even for modules with no weight such as paintjobs.

You can resolve this by making the ship slightly lighter or by getting a more capable thrusters module. As soon as the ship is in a valid configuration again, it should again be possible to equip cosmetic items normally.

Good detective work there :)

Would be worth adding this to the bug report so the FD can reproduce more easily. So it turns out it was operator error after all :) (Though a more useful 'your ship is broken - why are you painting it?' message would be a worthy addition!)

That would be a waste of time as I submitted a support request and the findings that I stated above at what FD support told me. I removed the grade 3 engineer enhancement on my thrusters and everything returned to normal. I did suggest to FD that they add a note to the store informing people that certain modifications to ship's modules may prevent the application of purchased extras, such as paint jobs. What puzzled me is that the ship already had a paint scheme so all I was doing was replacing like-for-like. I'm sure yellow paint doesn't weigh that much more than desert sand paint.

Have to to say I am vary impressed with FD support. They responded within 24 hours and were vary helpful.

Ah, ok - from your post I thought you'd worked it out yourself - as long as FD know then it's up to them whether they want to deal with the support requests

No. I would have never been able to work that out for myself, though looking back on my post it does sound as if I had worked it out myself. I'll leave it as it is so that I look clever. :D

You old fraud :D

It does seem tho that some shady manufacturers in the 34th century are still using lead paint!

Have you tried putting stuff into storage to lower mass, then changing the paint, then putting it all back? Would you be able to put it all back or would that get caught by the outfitter issue? Is there something you don't really care all that much about that you could move to storage in case putting it back won't work? And finally, is it worth the chance since it's just a paint job?

I rectified it by removing the grade 3 engineer modification from the thrusters. I'm now able to change the livery.
