Cannot Connect Using Nord VPN

A search showed this was an issue, and shows it was fixed:

I beg to differ. After connecting to Nord VPN, Server Status shows OK on the launcher, but once in-game - no dice:

I've tried various suggestions by other posters, including setting up the Linux version of VPN connection but still nearly always get the above issue. So far, the only way I've been able to consistently play E-D is by disabling the VPN.

I see no way to contribute to the linked issue report, so should I just open a new one?

If its a forcing mechanism to prevent/reduce cheating, understood.

I and others use VPNs for added security, but whatever - I'll adapt.

I have this issue with ProtonVPN but also when I turn off my vpn I still get the same message! It was working fine after the first fleet carrier patch, but this is the first time I have tried since update patches.

This is very annoying - I just checked and no matter what mode / server I select in NordVPN I can't get past Elite's main menu - just shows unable to connect to server as in the OP.

EDIT - added confirmation to the issue tracker

I've just started playing again after a taking a year out and I have been having numerous issues connecting over NordVPN, which I can't resolve, even with the help of NordVPN support. I was hoping to come here to find good news but it would seem it's not only a known issue but also one Frontier are perhaps using to actively prevent exploitations of their relatively new (to me) currency.

I will sign the support thread.

A few reasons for starters and I am sure there are others...

1. It's their application that is not working, so you would hope they would at least have a passing interest in fixing the issue
2. If I manually select the NordVPN interface from within ED it works, so this is ED not detecting the new working interface correctly within their own configuration
3. ED do some 'complex' networking stuff and where you have complexity you generally find issues
4. NordVPN works for all other games and I play quite a few network heavy games

I use NordVPN too and having had connection issues I have had to disable it just for ED. I am not happy about this as I ideally want to use my VPN all the time.

I used to play ED with no problem on Avast Secure+ VPN. Then I switched to Express VPN in Feb 2020. ED will not connect to it's servers (same waitingforconnection failcount= # issue). This is when ED stopped working on a VPN for me. Maybe you could trail Avast VPN and see if it works, then cancel it if need be. I'm not sure what protocol Avast uses vs what Express VPN can do. So annoying, right :confused:?

seems a bit stupid to have vpn settings in the network options of the game if it don't work
how are you suppose to order hit men & hookers and do drug deal's and perform illegal snuff downloads ect whilst playing ED with out the cia and Interpol knowing?
I mean the tor browser will only get you so far...………………….
looks like ill just have to shut down the game for a few minutes ;)
