Newcomer / Intro Cannot login?

Hi,
whenever I try log myself in on the ED launcher, first I get sent a verification code. When I type that in, I return to the login window with the message "Please purchase/redeem Elite Dangerous to continue".
But I already have Elite Dangerous on steam, that is where I started the launcher from.

Does anyone know why I get that message or a solution?

Yeah, happened to me ~9 months ago...
and happened again ~9 days ago, when I purchased a second copy - after my "sister" Roberta decided that she always wanted to be a deep space explorer.
What usually works - based on a sample size of 2:
Abort, maybe even close launcher.
Make sure you have a frontier account, ensure it's activated by clicking on confirmation link in E-Mail.
Try being logged in to the Frontier account before the next step.
Try starting the launcher again.
If it wants to do the activation code thing again, do it exactly once - in my experience, it won't get better.
If it still does not work, try restarting the launcher - again.
If it still does not work, try selecting plain old Elite Dangerous (no Horizons, no Odysee) right next to the login button and start this older version once and quit it if it works.

Don't both accounts have to be "linked"? I thought there was a way to do that if you use Steam, as I do and went through the same thing, just can't remember how I did it.

Yes, you have to link two accounts, a steam and a frontier account.
And for 100 % of 2 steam accounts the process was not straightforward but got stuck in an endless loop - until I did something else than clicking login (again), waiting for the e-mail with the auth code (again) and entering the auth code (again).
Maybe the process acts as a gatekeeper and prevents people from entering the game if they can't bear doing repetitive tasks. :p
