Cannot mine asteroids or rings

I have the latest version of the game and have found a major problem in that the mining laser does not seem to be firing at all

Power management problem? Check your module priorities (right-hand panel, 'modules' tab). Is the mining laser active?

1 - make sure they're in a fire group.
2 - make sure that fire group is selected.
3 - make sure you have pips to weps.

Is your mining laser a turret? If so make sure under functions that you have turret mode to forward fire.

If your mining laser is turreted check its set to forward fire. I had that a while back confused the hell out of me

My money is on this being the problem. One of my wingmates did exactly this.

Also, make sure you are close enough to the rock, as the laser doesn't fire when you are out of range.

You can get fixed mining lasers - if you are having the turret problem, it's because you chose to fit turrets. I think pretty much everyone falls for this one if they try turreted lasers (I certainly did).
