Cannot select systems in galaxy map in VR

I know there are other threads on this but my problems seems different. I mapped all my galaxy map camera movement keys to my HOTAS and navigating the map is fine, but I have no circle in the middle like others have mentioned to select a system and thus no way to select a system.

Also there are no names next to any of the systems.

How do I enable the circle so I can actually select systems via HOTAS

Selecting the star doesn't work.
Make sure grid is on and move the circle marker on the grid to the dot coming from the system in question.

How do I turn on the grid?

I don't have any filters on right now. I also tried switching to realistic view on the menu on the left it made no difference.

I tried to then use the mouse just to see what would happen and when I moved my mouse to the very edge of my view for a second the star selection menu appeared for a second then disappeared.

My map is seriously messed up.

Have you tilted the map plane? The map opens level with the plane so the grid wont view at first if memory serves me well.

Are you seeing this issue is just VR? If it happens, jump to options and throw your image back to the monitor with the 3D setting in options.

Whenever I've lost the circle it's because I'm looking at a system and the plane containing the grid and circle is either too high or too low and I'm zoomed in so I can't see it.

A good way to find it is to just click on "current system" in the map menu and let it auto select to where you are, then zoom in and out

If I select my current system in the menu on the left and and hit spacebar to go to it, I fly to the system and still no grid or menu appears.

I mean in the actual Galaxy map menu. The tab where you enter a system search. There should be a current system that you press and the Galaxy map zooms and centers on where you are.

Did you also confirm your grid is on? That's an option found in the galaxy map also, on the last tab on the side panel I think

TorTorden was right about the grid. I managed to turn it on in the left menu (4th icon) its an option at the top. Once the grid was on I could select the line that goes to the plane to a spot and that shows the systems.
