[Canonn Science Report] Generation Ship Thetis investigation.

The whole of the final log is words. And you where already told what it says: 'Kill them all'.

It's just strung out a bit:

Kiiiiiiiilllllllll
Theeeeeeeemmmmm
Aaaalllllllllll

I agree the log, and the few letters in it, fit for the "kill them all". What I meant is that listening to the actual signal I could not get any words in it.

Your theories all seem quite plausible. However, let me set up another one.

Those ships roam space for decades. In the case of the Thetis, I understand it was even more than 100 years. A ship crowded with People separated from the deadly void by a thin wall. This surely wasn't the first occurence some of them got mental, even if it wasn't to that scale.

In a tense athmosphere, there is not much needed for a "natural" mass psychosis if all conditions are met. Let's assume the ship had already survived several internal struggles which are unavoidable. Factions rise inside, much as you would expect it in a prison. Nothing distracts otherwise from this dull, never-ending journey.

Then suddenly, sensors record an obviously artificial (crafted) Sound coming from a planet. Fear rises from the unknown. Tinfoil theories sprout from everywhere, rumors as well. Then a (maybe unrelated) Event happens, like one can unfortunately happen in every Society: a murder. Maybe witnesses have even seen the murderer behave like crazy. Not much differently from those who went mental before, but there was this Event before, you know, that strange recording, everyone heard it through the voice-com.

Maybe the murderer had to be shot down by the security guards, so he didn't have a Chance the explain his deeds.

So the tinfoil-hats gather to admit that it was the recording that got this poor man crazy. And as everyone else heard it as well, it's a matter of time before someone else gets killed.

The clear-minded mission-leaders try to curtail the rumours in vain. People get even more suspicious of each-other as it was already almost traditionally the case.

The self-fulfilling prophecy is at reach. It doesn't take Long before someone kills someone else, aledgedly in self defence because that guy had a butter knife in his Hands and had a weird look on his face. This Event is enough confirmation for that tinfoil theory to most People, and such Events happen again and again, at an increasing rate as more People arms themselves and everyone seems to think it's better to kill preventively than to wait and see what's that guy's intent with this fork.

Eventually, only few are left. In the meantime, the theory is confirmed in the mind of everyone. No one doubts it anymore. No one thinks of a mass psychosis. Therefore People submit to their imaginary killing Impulse much faster. When the last People remain, they park the ship in the nearest available Orbit and leave a message to those who may find the ship one day. A message that in reality contains a false assumption.

The last inhabitant eventually dies of decrepitude or solitude, or a legit and understandable crazyness that makes him commit suicide.

Hundreds of years later, we find the ship and its message and start to look for a Signal that maybe was just statics from a decayed human probe sent out centuries before even the Generation ship was lauched.

Since the record doesn't seem to have much effect nowadays, I really tend towards this theory, even if it is much less... exciting.

I actually find your theory quite exciting as well.
The mass psichosis situation is certainly something I didn't think about, but yeah, it is perfectly plausible. It would even explain the psicological deterioration of the comms officer. However, what is then that extrange sound, tagged as "000.0.00" of the last log? Why did the 4th log data pattern change, and how comes that the recording ended with some sort of interference?

All mysteries to feed our imagination. But hey, the search of the signal source may be the best way to proof if any of our hypothesis comes to be true! :D

I still feel like the signals source might be out there and this might become another mystery to solve. I wrote this in another Thetis thread so I'll just copy and paste it over:

So lets say they recieved the message in a system about 15LY away from Nefertem. As AstroExplorer67 stated (quote down below), there is only one system which is so close and relatively aligned to Sol. LFT 698.
So Astro had the idea to check the third planet, first moon because of the binary code. I just got to the system but instead, I checked if planets lie between Sol and Nefertem because they literally said the passed the planet, 15LY ago - and indeed there is Planet 4 with its 6 moons. I like the binary theory so I will check out the third moon, now. (Checked an area for around 3 hours, nothing except a few data points and crates) but I will continue the search later on)

AstroExplorer67 original quote:

I also made a video about the ship if someone is interested in hearing the voices with nice visuals:

When I go back to the zone I'll search the area too.

What I meant is that listening to the actual signal I could not get any words in it.

But that is what I am talking about. The audio does say 'Kill them all'. Each word is 'whispered loudly' and stretched over two seconds or so. Listen to it carefully. It is three words. The 'kill' rises in pitch in the middle, the 'them' is pretty flat and the 'all' is clipped off at the end so only get an 'ooorrrr' sound.

kiiiiIIIIIIIllllll... theeeeeemmmmmm... aaaaaaaal*

Try speeding it up.

EDIT: Unless it's me misunderstanding you, and you can hear the words, but are talking about the other background sounds?

Ok, we are talking about the signal, no mistake there :D.

I have listened to it one hundred times, different speeds and settings... and I am unable to hear the words. Are you sure you are not hearing something that isn´t there?

To me it is clear as day. It sent shivers down me when I visited it and listened to that log and realised it was the message that sent them mad itself. I also loved that style it was done in, eg that fact it was not just someone shouting or just saying the words normally. I think it has been very well done. It's very creepy.

Try this:

You know there are three sounds and you know there are three words. So listen to it and say it out loud yourself, at the same speed, try to match your words to the same length. So over the first sound say 'Kill' etc. Do it in the same style EG whisper it 'loudly'. That might get you into the right way of 'hearing' it.

...just, don't kill anyone afterwards.

EDIT: and if that fails, I'll jump onto the Canonn discord and do it myself for you. That might help you 'see' it.

I don't think that's the way of doing something. If I do that I will be forcing my to "hear" something that may not be there at all :S. I honestly do not think there are any words in there.

*shrug*

Can't help you there. I hear it clearly. But I guess it does not really matter in the big picture :)

The question remains would you have heard it if you hadn't been told it was there? Personally I can't hear it, but I can see how someone might think they can. It's a bit like those stories about heavy metal bands and allegations of 'satanic messages' that could only be heard if you played the records backwards. As an experiment I'll ask you to listen to Get Lucky by Daft Punk and tell me how many times you hear the phrase 'Mexican monkey'

Well, I can't answer that of course.

I guess if you only hear white noise, then you get a last log which is just a transmission of white noise.

If, like me, you hears the three busts of noise as 'kill them all', then you get the transmission itself which is well freaky.

Everyone's happy I guess. But it would be nice is the FDEV sound guys confirmed it one way or another.

Excellent report commander. Any chance you can investigate the Lycaen?

I find the the asteroid sourced pathogen intriguing, so something to find might be there. Also the last transmission seems to suggest the person in the audio was not the last one alive. Perhaps the rest might have jumped ship and headed to nearby planet?

I will be going there too soon. I hope to use my medical knowledge to try to stablish a possible area of search for the pathogen origin :). Expect a report the next few days!

I wonder if the Lycaen pathogen and the Odysseus pathogen are related as the Odysseus logs indicate outbreaks after meteorite strikes, although it doesn't appear to have been as virulent a strain in the first instance.

I've nothing of substance to add other than I live about 5 mins walk from where HMS Thetis sank. Very sad incident.

I know everything.
The ship was placed there by the hands of Frontier.
At a time before the game was released.....suspicious, right?
The messages you have recieved are made by Frontier, no crew, no emergency message....nothing to be worried about.
I call it fake news.
They are there for fake scientist, pretending to be the top brains in the galaxy by providing screenshots and assumptions.
WOW
Canonn does a very useful job.
:x

Jeez, why are you always so salty. Hmm....

Am i?
mmmhh no, i just can't get it. There is no mystery at all in the game.
There are no secrets to discover.
It's only a pixolated fairytale.
Boring aliens everywhere.
And strange people try to find something useful in it, only begging for attention. :D
How much they do for the community = Zero.
