4-20-21 - Same issue here. I tried to load ED on Steam yesterday and received "Failed to communicate with authentication server, check your internet connection and try again." So I loaded up Control also on Steam and played for a couple hours. Attempted to load ED again and received the same error. Gave up and went to bed.
4-21-21 - Still unable to logon to ED and turning to the forums for info.

Thanks in advance for your help

Issue Resolved - I'm unable to delete my prior question. Pieced together the solution by reading several of the posts again.
1. I always launch ED through Steam. It didn't occur to me to Launch from the game exe.
2. Launch from the game exe. Found the "Logoff machine" option and selected.
3. Used the ID & Password that logs here to log into ED.
4. Game launched with no further issues

As usual, more details required.
Often, this issue is related to your network setup - firewalls, VPN, filter configuration anywhere in your network
Sometimes, this issue is related to general networking or load problems on the Amazon AWS server that is hosting your specific authentication server.
Sometimes, on console, the issue is related to general problems on the specific console network.
Occasionally, but regularly, the issue is related to a scheduled downtime on the FD server.
Rarely, the issue is related to an unscheduled downtime on the FD server (in which case, you will find several related threads within minutes on the general Dangerous Discussion subforum).

Hi, I don't know if this will have anything to do with it, but in the hope it may help:

Yesterday when I logged into Steam and Launched the game I got a new Elite Launcher box come up, that asked me to re-link my Frontier account to Steam. I did this and then continued on to the usual Frontier box with the GalNet News/Server Status and blue 'Play' button; then into game.

So>Steam Play>Horizons choice>New orange box link Frontier Account message (and email code received - see below)>once done, normal Frontier window with blue Play button>Game.

Maybe the new Frontier (orange button) link window is what's causing the issue?

Edit: Just logged onto game again and part of the link process is that they send you an email code to enter (sorry forgot that part! Have now inserted in red).

I did not click the remember my password when linking my Frontier account first time - this time I did, and when I logged on again the game went through the normal log on process - no new link box or email codes sent!

Hope this helps <O

I've been unable to connect to Frontier servers since Saturday.

No idea why it would suddenly stop working. The only recent change was a Windows 10 update. I've tried switching off the firewall and antivirus, and logging-out the machine and going back in. I have 3 accounts on here, and all have been knocked out.

I put in a support ticket on Sunday, got a reply Tuesday suggesting a firewall/antivirus problem. I replied saying it wasn't, no response yet.

Update: I've found my problem. My son had installed Radmin VPN software to fix a multiplayer problem with another game, and for some bizarre reason ED decided to use it as the default Internet connection. Switching back to "Ethernet" fixed it.
