Newcomer / Intro can't even start the game

I bought ED on Steam. When I try to run it, I get a Frontier login page - when I log in, it sends me a verification code in email. When I enter in the code, I get a message telling me to buy/redeem the game code. When I log in again, I get sent a new verification code. Three times I've gotten a code but I can't get any further.

I tried to access the support site at https://support.elitedangerous.com/ - every time i try to load it, I get "This site can’t provide a secure connection - support.elitedangerous.com sent an invalid response. ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR"

I checked my email purchase receipt and there's no game code for me to redeem. I tried to type in the Steam transaction ID for the Frontier game code window and it said it was invalid.

Totally stuck and really frustrated - can anyone hook me up with Frontier support to get my game activated?

One thing you could try is to close the Launcher and lauch the game through Steam.
