Cant find Contacts to pay fine

Found this regarding paying fines 'Go back to the station if you're near it, or to another nearby federal station and dock. In the starport services menu, go to contacts. Select the first option, pilots federation or something like that. It will list your fines. Pay them there. '

Mut when I go to Mowson dock and click on Starport services I can't find contacts. I attach what I get.

From the looks of it, Contacts is right above Universal Cartographics in the left-side menu, UC is marked in red.

contacts on the left side it looks like a police badge next to it click contacts > authority contact and pay the fines.

Well done for getting fined, it shows you are trying. Wait for your first friendly fire bounty :D.

Read about rebuy.
I wish that was the case. I started Auto Launch and it said I was in a queue so I waited. When the timmer went to zero I got fined. I'm confused, what's going on.

auto launch/land is notorious for destroying ships. 9/10 times it works flawlessly but sometimes you end up with a rebuy screen. important to remember if you have some valuable cargo on board.

I never use auto-dock or launch, I whizz in through the letterbox at full afterburners and use the control tower as a brake.

You just need to get a feel for flying as soon as that happens it'll click and you'll find it really easy.

Start any tutorial and just prat around in your ship doing silly things like circling asteroids of skimming around the hull of the station, that's the easiest way to get a feel and get your controls set up how you like them.

I use joystick for pitch up/down yaw left/right and turn left/right with the throttle for forward/back. Then I added up/down/left/right thrusters to the hat so I can control orientation and dodge/manoeuvre with just my flying hand. I also added wsad as thrust up/down/left/right with qe as thrust forward back on the landing override controls so I can zero the throttle aim the ship by joystick and manoeuvre in 6 degree's of freedom whenever the gears out. Makes station and planetary landings easy and intuitive.

It really is worth getting a feel for that.

Glad to see you bought a docking computer.

You will have to use it wisely. If it puts you in a queue, that probably means another ship is coming through the slot. Wait until it's gone past then, if it is still holding you there, move slowly forward keeping your speed at less than 100 (to avoid fines) and keep to the right hand side as you exit.

Landing is usually a little less irksome, although sometimes at busy stations it will hold you in a long line of traffic. You can override it at any time.

Watch what the docking computer does to your ship and learn from it. It won't be long before you can take over the whole process by yourself, but this part of the learning curve is very steep.

Glad to see you are progressing !🙂

I never fly with auto-dock.

I’m on PS4 and I’ve never used it, I always dock/land manually.

It’s worth practicing. The auto-dock feature can lead to rebuys. In some of the larger ships, auto-dock is self sacrifice.

A nice tip for super cruise is, when approaching a station in orbit of a body, if you approach from "inside" the orbit (so with the planet almost behind you) , then you will always drop out of super cruise directly in front of the station (their mail box faces inwards).

I tend to fly between planet and station then turn toward the station, keeping my angle so that the orbital line "flattens" out into a straight line.

The straighter that line, the more in front of the station you'll end up. Usually saves time (usually) doing your approach this way than boosting all the way round the station from behind in normal space.

Before Auto Dock, the Docking Computer (DC) tried to kill me several times, I think FD made the DC treacherous on purpose; it requires your attention even though the ship is on auto pilot.

I don't have Auto Dock because it's probably as treacherous as its older sibling.

It also saves a slot.

If you are in Open, there might be another CMDR deliberately blocking the slot. I've always used a docking computer and I've never had it sit in a queue (either launch or landing) for so long that the timer expired. Even back when the NPC takeoff-swarm bug was a thing, they still all cleared away within a couple of minutes, leaving plenty of time.

So would people recommend manual landing/lanch? Guess with the default sidewinder its not a biggie but when you start upgrading or buying a better ship it sounds like it could get expensive.

Still no idea why I got a 200 credit fine. I was in a q for 4 minutes then got fined. Was using auto lancher. Is this due to an issue wit hthe autolancher?

Yes, open. is this a bad idea?

If you find that the countdown timer is taking too long, check and see if it is another CMDR that's causing the problem (they will be a hollow square or triangle on the radar, rather than a solid square or triangle which are NPCs). If it is, then simply log off and log back in in Solo. The logging off-and-on will probably teleport you out of harm's way and you log back in to find yourelf drifting outside the space staiton, but if it doesn't, then you should now be free to launch without hindrance, then once back outside you can switch back to Open.

Since you're in the newbie zone, it's entirely possible that it's just another newbie who's still trying to figure out the controls, rather than a stealth-griefer who's deliberately trying to block your path. Either way, there's no shame in switching to Solo and back to avoid the problem. You could try hailing them to let them know they're holding up the line, but you're unlikely to get a reply - a newbie won't know how to look at comms, and a griefer won't care.

OK, just to clarify is auto dock and docking computer the same. I haven't brought one, it came as standard.

Rrobes is getting the nomenclature a bit confused. There's the Standard Docking Computer, which only docks a ship (you have to always launch manually). And there's the Advanced Docking Computer, which does exactly the same job of docking, plus also auto-launches your ship for you.

I believe all Newbie ships now come standard with an Advanced Docking Computer installed. Feel free to remove it and sell it if you prefer the challenge and learning opportunity of manual landings and takeoffs.
