Can't get it working, help please?

Ok yes everything in that video I've already done. I do not get the option to change to Oculus rift in the 3D settings.

I'm getting very sad now, really was looking forward to jumping in to the Elite world tonight in glorious VR but it's getting increasingly frustrating :(

Do you have Teamspeak?

Nosh

Thanks Nosh, we tried troubleshooting everything, all my settings are the same as his, only difference is the drivers. He is on 344.75.

Yes on the desk demo the blue light on both the rift and the monitor mounted camera are on.

Update: If I do manage to get it displaying in the rift (by using extended mode) it is ultra zoomed in so I can barely see a thing, and the blue light on the camera does NOT come on.

For some reason Elite is not recognising the rift whereas every other app is.

Doing my head in o_O

You say you haven't got the power plugged in? Pretty sure its needed in most cases.

You could try forcing the oculus mode directly...

Goto C:\Users\{your name}\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics

open the Settings.xml and make sure the Stereoscopic Mode is set to 3

<StereoscopicMode>3</StereoscopicMode>

If its not detecting your DK2 then the likelyhood is all the other Oculus related settings maybe missing. Use mine as a template...

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<GraphicsOptions>
<Version>1</Version>
<PresetName>Custom</PresetName>
<StereoscopicMode>3</StereoscopicMode>
<IPDAmount>0.063586</IPDAmount>
<AMDCrashFix>false</AMDCrashFix>
<FOV>57.621269</FOV>
<HighResScreenCapAntiAlias>3</HighResScreenCapAntiAlias>
<HighResScreenCapScale>6</HighResScreenCapScale>
<GammaOffset>-0.005450</GammaOffset>
<DisableGuiEffects>false</DisableGuiEffects>
<StereoFocalDistance>24.327976</StereoFocalDistance>
</GraphicsOptions>

Hi, thanks mate. Tried that but it didn't work...

Still no option to switch to rift in 3D settings, and still no blue light on camera.

I'm at a loss... :_(

That stereoscopic option is essentially the 3D settings menu. So leave it alone once in the game. Best way to be sure is to go in the game set the monitor to secondary, 75hz etc.. and set 3D to side by side. Then exit the game and set the config manually to 3. Then reload the game and see what happens.

EDIT: I found this but the guy ended up re-installing Windows to get it working!

Ok, tried that, no difference, can still only select anaglyph or side by side. (thankyou for continuing to try and help)

I've even tried a clean install of the 344.75 drivers, still no luck. I'm all out of ideas. After spending all afternoon and evening trying to get it to work I've had enough.

What a waste of money! Oh well.

Remove the front cable cover of the Rift

and then plug in the USB cable properly.

e: like so:

Ok, tried that, no deal still :_(

In the oculus rift demo with the table in front of you with the lamp and house of cards etc. should I be able to lean in and roll my head etc. as that doesn;t happen. Wondering if that's got anything to do with it

Do you have orientation tracking in any other demos? That is, can you look around with your head?

Thanks Rambowjo yes tracking works perfect in other demos etc.

Both ports at the front under that cover are in securely.

As I was glutton for punishment I've just finished completely uninstalling and redownloading/installing Elite as a last resort. Still nothing.

I just can't get the Oculus Rift option in the 3D settings menu...

I'll give you a short rundown of how I play with my Rift in Elite.

First off, you don't need to run the Rift as primary monitor. Just boot up Elite normally, with the Rift turned on, set to extended of course, you would know ;)
Now what really matters, is that in the graphics options you have to select the 'Secondary' monitor (assuming you only have your main monitor + Rift), and only then will the Oculus option become available to you. You can do all this from your normal main monitor, so you don't have to take guesses at what the menus are saying when looking through the Rift.
If this does not work, it is indicative of your OVRService being paused. Hit the windows button, write Services and select the one with the cogs

http://puu.sh/fNw2X/b8fd244f18.png

and in there you simply find the OVRService and make sure it's running. If not, right click it, hit properties and manually turn it on. A lot of demos will work fine without it, but Elite and the desk demo will not.

Hi Rambowjo,

Yep, tried with it being set to secondary monitor, no dice. Does not allow me to select the Oculus Rift. I do just have main monitor and rift. Rift is secondary set to extended.

I checked the services point you mentioned as I hadn't tried that yet although I have no problems running all the other apps/games etc.

The OVR Service is indeed started (running).

This is so weird :/ Why me?! lol

iv had this problem, but for the life of me, i cant remember how i fixed it.

i know it was something daft, and as soon as i remember ill get back to you brother, dont give up!!

MM

edit:iv had this twice, both DK1 and DK2, on DK1, it was due to me running the incorrect runtime, the DK2 still has me stumped though, i remember seeing my ass over it, everything BUT elite would work, and i bought it to play elite more than anything. the 3 things that were getting me at the time were 'orientation', rift display mode in O C U, and having the display on the correct side(to the right of main display in CCC/NCP)

for me, i know it was something daft, but had me snagged for about 3 hours, then the penny dropped.............. im just waiting for the penny to drop once again

Thanks mate :)

Well bludgeon me with a badger I've finally (at 1:30am) got it to display in the Rift! Hooray! :D

I unplugged the lot, uninstalled everything, and I mean everything, clean install of the latest drivers, then reinstalled everything and plugged it all back in again, and you can imagine my shock when there it was "Oculus Rift" appeared under 3D options...

Unbelievable. I'm not one to give up and I was not going to let this beat me lol

There's still some problems ie. the picture is flickering black and white and back to colour intermittently and it is blurry as hell but that's enough for me tonight... I'll work on the rest tommorow after work. For now I'm just happy that I didn't let it beat me and wrestled the thing into working ;)

From the quick 10 mins I had a go though it was quite impressive, everything is so much... bigger! Oh, and looking down at your arms and hands mimicking what you are doing with the X52 is quite something, a very eerie feeling!

I think I'll need to do some tinkering to try and sharpen up the image, I'll change the GUI colour and re-calibrate the Rift for my eyes tomorrow.

I actually got it working though... woohoo! :D Night all zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

good work

this should fix your blurry issues:

In your ED settings file the "IPDAmount" should match the "IPD" value of your Oculus profile. To fix this you copy the "IPD" value from C:\Users\@@@\AppData\Local\Oculus\ProfileDB.json and paste it to "IPDAmount" in your C:\Users\@@@\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics\Settings.xml file. Replace @@@ with your username.

is right mate, made up for ya, was just about to suggest uninstalling the driver and sdk, all good!! theres enough of us here to get it running good for ya tomorrow ;)

Thanks mate :)
