Newcomer / Intro Can’t get past “play”

I know this probably isn’t the right place to ask, but I honestly can’t find anywhere else.
After playing for months, tonight I can’t log in.
I press “play” and it cycles for a few seconds, then gives the option to press play again. Over and over.
I had made zero changes to anything prior to this, although I did suffer a video card reboot.
i have updated, and updated and updated windows all evening.
i have disabled the windows defender software. I have re-enabled windows defender software and white listed the correct .exe files.
I have updated my graphics card software and firmware.
i have rebooted.
i still get the option to “play” but it won’t continue to play.
What is the solution, please?

Also I use Pc, I do not use steam.
 
Check the game files.
On the top of the launcher window (under your commander name) there are "Options". Click on it and then on "Validate game data".
 
And while you wait for the response, you can go into your Frontier account at the official store, go to "My downloadable products" and re-download and reinstall the launcher. Then try to validate and run the game again.

Also if you experienced a graphics card crash previously, it could be the graphics card itself. Have you tried other games?

There is a FAQ specifically about that:



The other thing is an issue in your EDLaunch.exe.config file where it says:

<startup>

<supportedRuntime version="v2.0.50727"/>
<supportedRuntime version="v4.0"/>
</startup>

you might not have the runtime v2 so delete that line and see if that helps (make a copy before editing).
