Can't get the Ram Tah Decoding Ancient Ruins mission to work (NVRMIND, I'm an idiot, SOLVED)

And I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, I just can't for the life of me figure out what it is.

Edit: Found out what I was doing wrong. I actually have to TARGET the silly thing to be able to scan it. Didn't run into that on planet surfaces before. Delete or leave up as a help to other CMDRs, I'll leave that up to you fine volunteer mods :), it works fine now :)

So I've got the mission from landing at Felicity Dock in Meene:

Synuefe TP-F b44-0-Synuefe TP-F b44-0 CD 1 (20200828-133826)_3.jpg
I've got the right items (according to the guides/maps/pictogram descriptions online):
Synuefe TP-F b44-0-Synuefe TP-F b44-0 CD 1 (20200828-133826)_2.jpg
And I'm scanning the bejeezus out of the obelisk, but all I'm getting is the generic message that you get when you scan something that is already known:
Synuefe TP-F b44-0-Synuefe TP-F b44-0 CD 1 (20200828-133826).jpg
Plz halp. I'm sure it's something utterly daft on my part, it wouldn't be the first time, I just need to know what I'm doing wrong if somebody happens to know.

Thanks in advance :)

Not sure if someone else is still unable to get the extra "extended" Ram-Tah's mission to work (the one requesting us to use Thargoid's Tissues/Probes/Sensors)... but up to this day I do not to get any progress nor reply message from scans.

Are you using the datalink scanner? the message top right is from the composition scanner (aka 'the wrong scanner')
Worse than that, actually. I had become so used to only ever scanning geysers/fumaroles and such on planets, that it never occurred to me that I had to target those obelisks in order for the scanner to work, pointing at it was not enough.

Yes, I know. There's a giant indentation in my desk from my forehead now ;)

It doesn't help that the target is just out of line with the SRV so you have to use the turret half the time :) Glad you got it sorted

Next step: do one of the planetary scan/data hack missions from your ship.

You may need a new desk after you realize, in the 15th attempt, that you actually need to deploy weapons in addition to targeting the dataport for the ship's datalink scanner to work.

Oh, this is just too funny! I DID try that once, who wants to be dodging lasers in a flimsy SRV after all?, and was utterly frustrated that I couldn't get the ruddy thing to scan. Now I know why! :ROFLMAO:
