I've got the same problem, i bet you bought it from Steam like i did, seems Steam has some problems because Steam account details isn't loading neither is the friendslist.

Same here. I did eventually get into my Steam profile but downloads are very slow. Maybe they've got a DDOS ongoing.
same here ... why every time i finally have time to play this game i cant launch. Really last 3 times in 2 weeks i found some spare time for this game i cant play it. I was probably a very baaaad person in previous life ....

Yes it is a Steam issue - had it earlier today then it sorted itself - looks like it is happening again.

Please, dear Frontier devs... I'd be ready to re-buy the game again if I had to, from you rather than Steam, if you could provide a way to NOT lose my save while getting rid of Steam. Of course, considering how Steam is a complete piece of trash when it comes to handling online games, you could also provide such a service free of charge, but I know what world we live in, so...
What say you ? I give you more money, and you make sure I keep my save on a Steam-less account ?

if you use the same login details email pasword ect on an fdev version that should preserve your cmdr ship stats etc

Wondering if this is related. Just tried the game today, had to change my network settings (dunno why, worked absolutely fine previously) to get it to connect, then save game takes about 30 seconds to load (used to be about 5), then no sound on menus, game also hangs if I exit (have to kill via task manager).
Still having this issue this morning

Horizons is crashing on launch. I've run validation from steam - no issues were found.
I've run my virus checker in quick mode and run checks against the program file. Again, no issues were found.
I've tried re-booting before launching the game.
Two Three crash reports have been sent to FDev - though the game has crashed without generating the reports too.
What has changed on my system? I know Discord ran an update this morning, but I've tried rebooting and launching ED without launching Discord ... ED still crashes.
Any hints to get the game running would be gratefully recieved.

I just tried that following a reboot of my PC - now I'm not even getting to the first menu for either game mode (Horrizons or non-Horrizons)
New, the EDLauncher crashed when the game did.

Well I just tried ED standard and it's doing exactly the same for me (long load time, no sound in menus, hangs on exit).
launcher issues are usually associated with net framework version could try checking\updating that
in saying that now two have same issue its looking like a steam fault
NB if you bought the game before April 24th 2019 you can use the non steam version here http://hosting.zaonce.net/elite/Client-Installer.exe
