Can't login through Frontier/Steam

Yo!
After a few years and lots of frustration with other space games, I decided to give Elite another shot.
I played it some years ago, don't remember when it was.
Back then I purchased a key and activated that in Steam. Now, as I loved the ground battles on Star Citizen, I purchased Odyssey on Steam directly.
I downloaded the game, started it and the Frontier launcher opened. I created a new account as I didnt have one and linked my steam account. I restarted the launcher and was connected through Frontier with Steam linked. First thing I noticed: it said Elite Dangerous Horizons, not Odyssey right next to the big play button. I ignored it and started the game. After the hardware check then finally it said "Login error" and it threw me out of the game. Now I browsed through 20 old forum threads with links that do no longer exist but in the majority all with the same core message:
The Game itself should not have a key on steam, which is why you need to link it and that should be the trick. WELL, I got a key and I am linked, but the webpage interface says I do not own Elite Dangerous.
I'm not trying to deactivate Odyssey and re-try everything with only the base game, but it seems like Frontier does not accept my Key-based Steam game. Also when trying to activate the key on their end it says the key is already in use.

Any other suggestions?

Ditch Steam and just use the Frontier version. You can download it from the Frontier site. Get Odyssey from Frontier and refund the Steam one. Steam does not play well with ED

Literally just wait a while.
Everyone I know who has bought Odyssey on Steam has encountered this, it takes a while for Frontier's servers to recognize the "DLC" has been purchased and in the meantime it constantly puts you through the "login to continue" loop. Once linked you should never have to manually login when launching from Steam, any time it asks you to do so means there is something wrong with the servers.

Also, a new Launcher is being released tomorrow (Monday), that is supposed to fix these kind of issues.

Ok so can't connect to Frontier servers in game. Have restarted PC, modem, routers etc. Can't even install Legacy version from launcher .. just hangs on 0%

they cannot fix what isn't theres to fix (amazon peer to peer servers) they will always be temperamental
the only way to "fix" is to switch to an expensive client server its been the same since alpha of elite dangerous
all you can do is conform to network protocols as best you can to avoid a weak link scenario(see pic) or find a better route for your data traffick via a vpn

comparison 5 and 6 https://byjus.com/gate/difference-between-client-server-and-peer-to-peer-network/
its the price we pay for piggyback gaming on a shopping data burst transaction network as fd profit matters
(I knew Tron get it oh never mind ;) )
