Can't Sell Stuff

I haven't done any trading since the new trade tools, but I just went to Witch Head to see what the hubbub was about and grabs some legal salvage. The problem is that I can't sell it. It seems the interface is broken - I can select "sell" from the menu, but I can't arrow over to select my commodities. I'm assuming this is a hit-or-miss bug, otherwise everyone would be screaming about it. Anybody else have this problem on PS4? I logged out for the evening, will try again tomorrow or this weekend. I hope it works when I do.

It's a bug. Go into the filter on the market then exit out of it then it should throw the cursor over to the market items.
Thanks! I'll try that. Once in the little dialog box, I'll be able able to interact with the box's GUI? I ask because last night I pulled up 'Help' to see what I was doing wrong, and that bumped me over to the commodity list, but when I clicked on the commodity and the sell box popped up, I lost "focus" again.

Figures that after months of not playing, I'd find a new obnoxious bug within hours. I'll bite my tongue before I break into my 'most buggiest game ever' rant....

Ok. I have a couple of questions. Please don’t bite my head off.

In the commodities screen you can indeed flick up and down between buy and sell but you have to push X to activate them. D-Pad down to sell, X to activate the board, D-Pad right to get into the commodities, D-Pad up and down to browse them, X to select them. You know this, right?

I don’t have this issue. It seems many don’t. Have you uninstalled and reinstalled?

I promise not to bite your head off. You seem like a nice guy, after all.

The answer is yes, this is what I did. I actually thought it might be an intermittent bug, otherwise people all over would be complaining (see my OP). The first reply said it was a known bug, so I just assumed it happens all the time with everyone. All I know is I tried everything 'logical' button-wise last night and nothing worked. I would be pleased as pickles if it randomly works properly tonight.

As for reinstalling, this is no trivial matter for me due to my limited bandwidth. I've tried reinstalling the game in the past, but that has never helped with any of the bugs I encounter. I suppose I could reset my controller bindings to default and reassign them, but this is a last-resort option because it's a pain to get all my customizations back (none of which should interfere with menus).

Anyway, I'll try again later and let you know. You are proof that it should work, and I would be very happy to get it working again. Now, can you help me with my flickering flashing shadows? ;)

Don't alter the filters when in market on PS4 ... or the sale version on the next station will not work correctly on console untill you enter and exit the filter screen again...

This is another TEST with mouse on PC but don't test with controller on console showing issues, when game is moved to consoles engine with no mouse usage...
Yes using the filters may reduce the scroll down time but currently it will take more button presses to move the cursor to the sale items...

Move down to filter. press x. press circle to exit filter screen. and the cursor will move by itself to the commodities list finaly...
You have to do this every single sale station market screen untill you stop using the filter on the market on the station...

THIS STUPID RESCROLLING OVER THE SAME THINGS 1000 TIMES IDIOT BOUNCING SELECTOR BUG IS GETTING ON MY NERVES!!!!!!!

Come on Frontier, get with the program! It's not only affecting missions, but commodities as well (which is a ridiculously long list to have to scroll through using this broken interface).

It was sarcasm because of exactly that. We don't have one and there's no one from FDev reading the PS4 forum who will "go to bat" for their PS4 customers.

All you can do is remember this when you're asked to pay for the 2020 expansion.

The PS4 forum is definitely quiet these days... Commanders must be too busy grinding.

The 2020 update should be titled ‘Elite Dangerous: The Return.’ Hopefully we’ll see more commanders back here then...

Grinding in Warframe, perhaps.

To the topic, it's pretty appalling how many "known bugs" exist in this game that go unfixed for months or years, especially on PS4. It's antithetical to Frontier's goal of winning new players, since these new players haven't been in the game long enough to get hooked (like me), so these stupid broken menus will only frustrate them to quite early and never look back.

By that point however the new players will have already given their money to FDev, so do they really care ? In the same way, unless the "hooked" players also happen to be micro transaction whales then what do they care if the "hooked" players get annoyed ?

Realistically, you're going to give them more money next year for the expansion aren't you ? Realistically what are the odds of you not talking yourself into it ? So if they're all but guaranteed more money from you then why should they care ?

That's not a dig at you personally, it's just an observation of a lot of the Elite fans. FDev will do these irritating things and give you a bugged game but you'll still give them your money. So why should they put more than the minimum effort into the PS4 port ? They're going to get your money anyway and this merry go round will go on and on.

Because it's the right thing to do. Surely Mr. Braben wants his legacy to be more than that of a greedy capitalist! Right?

Yeah I know, even most self-described liberals are just greedy capitalists when it comes down to it. Sigh.... I guess he can always try to cure Malaria when he retires like Bill Gates. He did help give us the Raspberry Pi, so there's that. 🤷

I think we're all old enough to know that "doing the right thing" is rarely ever a real driving force in companies. The reality is that they keep doing these sorts of things and we as consumers keep giving them money regardless. In the meantime I'm sure that any of the people in charge that might be concerned about their legacy, can comfort themselves with large piles of money.
