can't start game

Sorry about this thread, since more people have had this issue. But I don't seem to be able to find an appropriate thread.

All right - here is my problem (a quiet "look at this post" will suffice for an answer

):
I have installed the launcher and I have installed the game (I think). As soon as I log in, I get the "Play" button. But when I press it - nothing happens.

What am I doing wrong?

Have you allowed access for the game in Windows Defender and your firewall?

I'll try that. Though no other game has that problem. Or the firewall "asks" to what to do with a specific program...

If that won't work - I'll happily get back to you...

Sorry - didn't work. Even the total deactivation of the firewall didn't help... What else can I do?

Are you running the game as administrator?

I'd normally never propose this, but you could disable/exit your firewall for a moment to try if the game works then. If it works, you'll know that your firewall settings are to blame.

I tried that - no change at all. Seems to be something else.

Didn't anyone else have this prob? Should be a hardware or specific software related prob...

Perhaps if you can reinstall Windows. Problems of corrupted DLL ? Perhaps ?

This may sound silly but the first ALFA builds I could run on 2 different systems one was below minimum spec but it still worked . But now because of all the extra information and graphics updates and software updates when ever I click play it just sits their and will not boot the game .
That's because its below min spec have you made sure your system meets or is better than the minimum spec for the game .
Yes I know silly but in the past I looked silly because I forgot to make sure I could run a game I had just bought and had all the control items plugged in .

That's a tough one. That's what I found out about my pc:

System Win7 DirectX11
NVIDIA GeForce GTX260
Intel Core i/ 860 2,8 Ghz
Intel ICH8R/9T/10T/DO/5 Series/3400 SATA Raid Controller
ca. 8GB RAM

What other things are relevant; and how do I find them out?

Your computer is quite sufficient to run Elite, according to the description

Have you tried to uninstall the game and reinstall ?

Yes, I did that already. At least the launcher... Wher can I find the other downloaded files (that get downloaded the first time after starting the launcher)? Maybe that is where the prob is...

Well - I did find the other files and deleted them. After re-installing the launcher and the whole game ... sorry to say this ... no change.

I'm not in the Alpha so I can't be much help but your GPU "NVIDIA GeForce GTX260" is the weakest part of the build.

Do you know if anyone else is using that one with no problems? Otherwise my advice is to wait till Monday and send a bug report in with as much detail as possible about your build, software etc.

I can even run the game (starting the elitedangerous.exe) but the program then tells me I should run (or start) the game with the launcher (which is running in the backround). Somehow both programs don't "contact".

The launcher has build 2014.03.28.23298 - should be the current one.

I think the actual build is 0.2.820.0

I have the same problem on a brand new Acer V7 Intel Core i7 running Windows 8.1 with 12Gb DDR Nvidia GEForce 720M. Nothing happens when pressing the yellow Play button apart from it momentarily disappearing. Incidentally it doesn't seem possible to choose where to install Alpha version 3.

Help please!

Have you tried to look into your control panel / system / even logger and see if there are errors being produced?
