Can't take off from planet

I've just started my first game. I'm on a planet surface. I put up the thrusters to maximum to take off but my ship won't go anywhere! The graphics indicate that I'm moving (stars shooting past etc) but im fixed to the spot!
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug? It's really annoying because I was really looking forward to having a go this morning!

Weigh anchor, you're dragging the planet out of its orbit!

Well normaly you, launch, fly upwards to gain altitude until you arent mass locked anymore. Then you activate supercruise and point towards the escape vector. And boom you leave the planet.
Ofcourse you can fly away from the planet without supercruise but that may a while.

If you didnt do it already, do the tutorial missions. Really they give you the bare bone basics. Without them you are literally lost.

Sounds wrong so it could be a bug.
Have you tried using your up thruster?
Otherwise log out then log in to the non Horizons version. You will be transported above the planet.

Thanks. If setting a target doesn't work I'll try this.

Sounds like you are just flying along in normal space. You are not going to be seeing anything like a planet or star moving until you engage your FSD drive and enter SuperCruise.

What you are seeing moving by is simply "Space Dust" which the game designers intended to indicate motion when all of the various astronomical bodies are fixed in space.

As was previously pointed out, you need to be free of any Mass Lock effect and with your hardpoints retracted, landing gear up, point the nose of you ship up facing away from the planet and wait for the Mass Lock light to go out, then engage your FSD drive by pushing the TRIANGLE button. Provided this is the same control layout as the Xbox version.

Line up with the "Escape Vector" and wait for the drive to engage. You should be on your way out of orbit at this point.

Target another star/station/planet, and use your Frame Shift Drive once you're out of mass lock ;)

The problem is I can't get out of the lock! I've tried accelerating and pushing the right stick up. I can't go anywhere. I am still on the planet surface! It's so frustrating as I've been really looking forward to playing this! In the end I deleted the game and will try to download it again tomorrow! [mad]

in situations like this, please make a vid, and share it with us..

Its the best possible way to get a nice detailed solution.. (if it aint a bug that is)

It takes a few moments to get rid of the mass lock.

Try this: -

1. Plot a course as normal.
2. Take off.
3. Retract your landing gear (Hold O and press DOWN on the D-Pad).
4. Accelerate so your ship is at optimal turning speed (the blue part of the bar).
5. Point the nose of the ship directly up (so you can't see the planet unless you move your pilot's head).
6. Accelerate to full speed (with as many pips in engines as possible [UP on the D-Pad]).
7. When (or if) the mass lock light goes out, hit triangle to engage your FSD.

And as Dusty suggested, record it, so we can see if it's an actual bug, or if you're just missing something :)

I hope that helps.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I'll give it a go! [smile]

If the point you've plotted is "behind" the planet, repeat the first 6 steps. When the mass lock light goes out, hold triangle, and press UP on the D-Pad to activate supercruise. Then just aim your ship at the escape point that it tells you to ;)

Good luck.
