Most of the backlash is down to Bree Larsons Anti white male rhetoric. Youtube is full of examples of her banging on about 'the patriarch'.
She isnt for this reason a very good role model for young women in my opinion, and Disney should be careful.

Since when in recent times has disney given a crap about men? Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe every animated movie has women/girls as main pratagonists, and Star Wars is so female biased now, not only with strong female leads, Rey better than po, finn and top level Rebels seem all female in the 7th film, Jinn better than Cassian, Qi'ra better than Han.....and oh EVERY single bad Imp white male? (apart from Finn but he defects) oh and the other defecting Imp in Rogue was an Asian.

edit wife reminded my about captain Phasma as a bad imp female ;) but she was an elite.

She's following the current fashion.

Alien 3 was pants because it was rewritten to be a largely gunless film as Hollywood was anti gun that year and Sigourney Weaver had jumped on that bandwagon. Originally it was intended to be more like the sequel Niel Blocamp wants to make which could be great if it ever happens.

Let's put it this way.

What would be your reaction if a 40 year old white man said.

"I don't care what a young black woman has to say about Terminator, It was not made for them !" ( Tho', I'm sure Arnold would never say such an atrocity !)

Pretty sure everybody would be shocked, and rightly so ! Someone's opinion is not lesser to any other just because of the color of its skin or its gender, I'm sure everybody agrees.

But it seem that for some people, because it was said by a woman and used inclusion as a shield, it has a free pass. And THAT rubs me in the wrong way.

Unfortunately for Bree, white men are the demographic that goes to the movies the most. It is then understandable that they make for a majority of critics.

NO ONE, and I say NO ONE should ever impeach someone to become a film critic or whatever just because of its gender or skin color. If they are so few female critics and skin colored critics, maybe it is simply because they represent a minority of people watching movies ?

Thankfully nowadays there is this wonderful tool called internet, within which we can find people from all genders and origins giving their opinion about his movie. And guess what, even so woman and black guys are a minority of film critics ! It must be their internet providers, who are controlled by the white male patriarchy silencing them down ! [/jk]

And don't start talking me about this "positive discrimination". Discrimination is just that, no matter how you turn it or present it, and its bad. People should be selected, elected, hired, because of their merits. Not their gender or skin color. If we start hiring people from such or such demographic only to fill a quota chances are we wont hire the best people for the job.

Recently I've read an article about one of our ministers scandalized about an article in a magazine talking about the most successful internet companies and their founders. Facebook, Amazon, Twitter, etc...

The minister asked why there was not a single woman represented. The magazine answered that they did search for successful internet companies founded and led by women, its just that they found none ! It's no secret that girls and women in general are just not as much interested in high tech and computers as men. No one say that they are not talented, or that they cannot pull it of, but as it stands there is just very few girls that follow studies in high tech. It has never been about discrimination, but motivation.

Back on topic, I haven't seen Cpt. Marvel, nor I am interested, because a lot of reviewers that I trust just confirmed what I suspected from the trailer and the following PR campaign. Its simply not a good movie. It goes form meh, to really bad !

Here are a few, and for the sake of diversity I'm putting a white male, a girl and a black guy.

Jeremy Jahns : Who is not known for being a misogynistic alt right Trump supporter.

Alteori, which I believe is Asian. So a girl and of a minority, happy now Ms Larson ?

YoungRippa59.

As you see there is a consensus, NOT worth the money. I'll pass.

PS : DON'T trust Rotten Tomatoes, or at least the "official" critics there. It's been proven that they play often "softball" on bad movies with high budget, sot that they could keep their jobs.

But I have EVERY intention in watching Shazam ! The trailer alone looks like a TON of fun !

Yeh Disney has definitely got a female slant to its productions, especially recently. Personally i dont mind that so much except when its forced or unnecessary.
Disney is for children and i personally feel that positive messages should be communicated through their media and their Stars.

My post is more about Bree Larsons toxic rhetoric off screen and how Disney should be careful about that.

I'd love that Alien movie to be made.

incidentally Alien 3 is a good movie if you watch The assembly cut which fixes alot that was wrong with the theatrical.

Wow... how is the movie about hating men? I musta missed that when I saw it.

What do you think of most of the other superhero movies where women are there mostly just as eye candy or romantic interests/damsels in distress? Are you offended by them as well?

What are you talking about? The issue isn't the movie, the issue is with the movie lead thinking that a specific race and gender shouldn't see her movie. I'm not offended at the movie, it's plot, the fact that they changed the main character to a woman, none of that bothers me. I'm offended at the attack on men. Like I said, if a man said they didn''t care about white women's thought or didn't want them to see their movie, SJW's would lose their collective minds. But a woman saying it against the evil white man, well, that apparently makes it ok. The irony is so f'n completely lost on SJW's it's almost comical. The real story here is Brie got her stardom because white men hired her for her looks, not her mediocre acting skills. Now that's she's famous and got her money, she needs to validate her career.

Quentin Tarantino should have made this movie. He would have cast it perfectly and offended everyone who doesn't smoke cigarettes.

I haven't watched it, as I generally hold the opinion that most/all super hero movies cater to the lowest common denominator when it comes to artistic appreciation (they suck, in other words). I just noticed that this particular superhero movie seemed to be drawing a lot of criticism pre-release from the people who don't share my artistic sensibilities and I wondered why all the hate? What does this movie do so badly that all the other movies in the genre do so right?

Watch it, and then we can discuss :) otherwise I will just sound like an old angry white man..... kind off....yes I'm angry...so... I show myself out...bye!

Wow, a lot of guys victimized by a superhero movie in this thread.

Some guys. I just don't like Brie Larson, not in this role and not as an advocate for women (neither does my wife, FYI). However, I was thrilled when Hope got her Wasp suit, I can't wait to see Pepper Potts in her new rescue armor, I could watch Black Widow break tough guys' necks all day with that amazing spinning leg take-down of hers, and had Emily Blunt been cast as Captain Marvel and the writing not been so "on the nose", I would be way more hyped over this movie.

Oh, I haven't seen Alita yet (I prefer watching movies at home), but my favorite part of the trailer is when a big ugly cyborg dude grabs her and she smashes his very surprised head through a table. So yeah, I actually adore strong female characters. But Brie Larson, from what I've seen, is not a strong woman on the screen or IRL...

Lost of women are heroes in movies, Ripley is 100% bad@$$, I like Madani from the Punisher, so it's not like they are not there it's just sometimes they are just not very well cast or the script is not good at all.

Happy if I was only Cmdr to defend the fresh, magnificent nay downright gorgeous Bree Larson here.

I wouldn't climb over her .. to get to many of you Commanders anyway. :D Or Valkerie

Or Scarlet Witch, Scarlet johannsen, Shield Agent Hill, Pepper Potts OR Agent Carter!!

You'll do for me Bree, as rough as you are. Pffft

Oh yeah, and you should watch this:

It's probably better to be on the right side of history with respect to these things. Here's a boycott story you might be interested in.
