Dinosaurs Carnotaurus Camouflage, as a big DLC exclusive feature

I truly never ever thought I would be suggesting this but, perhaps it would be cool if the Carnotaurus gets some kind of camouflage ability gene from a big DLC as a special rewarding feature.

You see, Frontier Developments confirmed elsewhere to strive to provide the best Jurassic World experience for Jurassic World Evolution. Already since, I knew that this meant their goal was to provide the experience to be film series authentic experience and environment for the game, rather than anywhere else in the franchise, making the Carnotaurus’s camouflage, as seen in the original Lost World novel seem unlikely, as that feature only appears in sources outside of the film lores of the franchise. They did confirm a long time ago they had no current plans for the adaptive camouflage to be with the Carnotaurus either, some time after the Secrets of Dr. Wu DLC launched, by the way. Looking in another perspective, it probably wouldn’t make sense if the Carnotaurus was given that trait through that particular DLC because of a couple of challenging aspects that I will get into later.

However, after experiencing what it was like to play the Return to Jurassic Park campaign myself, I realized they took some inspirations based on the original 1989 novel that started it all in regards to the campaign’s dino roster, by containing species from the novel into the roster, while still keeping the roster true to the species established in the original trilogy around the time of those films’ releases, prior to the extension by the viral in-universe DPG website. Some people also say the Rex’s red legacy skin is also a reference to the Rex’s described coloring from the novels, but I’m not sure on that just yet.

Point here is, perhaps they could go for another reference from the novels as well, with the Carnotaurus in particular, because it’s probably more special than any of the other novel exclusive dino related traits. The Return to Jurassic Park DLC really has opened a door or two for more potential possibilities I could think of to lay out conceptually.

First off, camouflage in dinosaurs, as in, the ability to change color to the respective surroundings, has always been a thing in the entire JP franchise since day one with Michael Crichton’s original Jurassic Park novel, albeit at a small scale. Most of the dinos from the novels with camouflage are really known from certain individuals of a certain species. But, the Carnotaurus is probably the most memorable of them all, before the Indominus rex’s screen time a couple decades later. Now, despite how many times people may bring it up, this dinosaur’s trait only appears in two pieces of media in the entire franchise: the original Lost World Book by Michael Crichton, and the 1997 Lost World arcade console game. Nowhere else. Not even in film lore established content.

However, after what I have examined about the JP DLC having references to the original novel book, I think maybe the ability to change color for the Carnotaurus could be a thing for a big DLC. Return to Jurassic Park and the game as a whole has already taken up a lot of dinosaur resources from the first three films, so this could be at least something to consider for diversity. Both the first two sequels and the Lost World novel are around the appropriate time zone to add references and so forth for a single big DLC, making the Carno’s camouflage ability just a bit more possible.

As for its inclusion, if it is to be planned and decided, I would positively believe it would be best if it would be a new feature implemented in a new big DLC. The Secrets of Dr. Wu DLC may seem like a possibility to some people, but like I said earlier, there are some challenges there.
The implementation for the Indominus rex’s camouflage ability in the game has a fleshed out lore and story in place, making the Indominus feel more special and fleshed out, lore wise. If the Carnotaurus got this just because for no good lore reason, it would kinda feel a little contrived and make the Indominus rex feel a little less special. Secondly, just like in Jurassic World, the Indominus’s camouflage ability comes from Cuttlefish genes, so the idea for such a trait is very Jurassic World-ish and that’s what the general outside world is going to memorize this trait by. But, the Carnotaurus’s species trait from the novel is entirely unclear as to whether or not it’s a consequence from gene splicing or a 100% natural trait for the species in that universe. To make it more authentic and wel themed to its source material for the general audience, I would probably recommend the Carnotaurus’s adaptive camouflage ability being from something else besides Cuttlefish as, again, the idea of using that animal’s gene is very Jurassic World-ish rather than Site B-ish or Lost World-ish.

Frontier did find ways to counteract how they can implement the most recent dinosaur skins from the Raptor Squad skins and legacy skins into the game without restricting themselves with specific animal genes. So, perhaps they could do the same here. They did read the novels for the development of this game, by the way. And the one DLC I think would be good for this idea is my “Welcome to Site B” concept you can read bellow:
