Carrier Command 2

That reminds me I should reinstall Gaia Mission and give it another shake. There are mods for it these days it seems.

Yup - there is a highly recommended mod by Species1571 that adds a lot of customisation and can significantly add to the gameplay.

Gaea Mission wasn't bad really - I got hundreds of hours of fun out of it and still love to fire it up now and then. It still looks great for a 360 era title - but a whole boatload of poor design decisions, unresolved bugs, the tacked on "story" and in some ways less of a game than the 1988 original left many scratched heads. Then the developers dropped it like a hot potato and it languished in obscurity.

Played the orginal on Atari St. It was novelty because it was '3d' but got hard and u would run out fuel at some int so couldnt get to islands
The modern update did not seem to be popular. Microsprose could do updates of there classic stealth fighet f15 but we have probably moved on with all those free mmorgs dcs etc.

Remember playing the original a lot when I was around 10 on the Atari ST (which I still have). You could destroy the enemy carrier early on in the action scenario if you were quick by travelling just out of range of the first island as it would always attack Thermopylae once you left it after capturing it. I didn't try Gaea mission as didn't have a powerful enough PC back then but Hostile Waters was similar but without a hostile carrier to fight with and a proper campaign.

Hopefully this is will turn out to be a decent sequel to the original.

Had the original on my Amiga, but first played it on my Spectrum, of all things! Amazing that the game worked on it, and looked as good as it did. Even had mouse control, if you were one of the few people with the Kempston Mouse 🙂

I loved Gaea Mission, even more so after installing the Deadly Islands mod which I think should be a prerequisite for anyone playing these days.

My first look at CC2 made me think it was a step backwards graphically, but I now actually like the ‘80s aesthetic they’ve gone for, chunky CRT simulated screens and the like. It’s as if they’ve taken an early 3D filled-polygon game and then turned the dial up to eleven. The bridge view made me briefly think “VR?” but it seems not.

Wishlisted and awaiting reviews!

Hey, have you ever encountered a way to remove the fog?

Nope, but then I didn't play it much, it was a bit of a carcrash at the time, and really really really overdoing the tutorial feel across multiple missions. Meant to go back to it with patches/mods but never got round to it. Might give it a go this xmas break. @Arioch mentioned the Deadly Islands mod, and I remember that name from reading forums, so that might be the big one to roll with, gameplay-wise at least.

I can recommend the mod, too. Makes for a better campaign. If there wasn't this damn fog.

Will definitely check this out.
I would rather that midwinter remake got picked up again however
Yeah, Singleton's games were among my first. And naturally I understood nothing, because my English was basically non existent. I figured out how to ski some slope but never got that thing with the character switching.
I hot-seated Lords of Midnight with friends but only completed it recently on a mobile version. Came with a map which was really great.
