Newcomer / Intro Cartography question

So I am far away enough to be able to sell what I gathered on the way
Now I am docked at a station so that means that if I get killed I would respawn there...right?
If I do respawn there, then would I have lost any cartography scans I did not sell the first time I docked at the station?
This is not clear and I am torn between selling everything and continuing exploring but apparently the farther I go the more valuable the maps become

Also a side question, is there a Scan button? I don t understand why after I reach a star I need to target it for the scanner to work and when it does that I lose the lock to my destination
I feel the scanner should be separate from the navigation computer meaning you should jump to a star, put it in front of you and then engage the scanner without it unlocking your destination because right now I need to get back to the side panel and reselect the destination...any reason also why the scanner is not able to scan on its own?
I mean its 3300 and the scanner knows there is a planetary body or star that is UNKNOWN but it is too dumb to do the scan itself?

:)

You only need to get 20ly to sell your data. It doesn't increase in price after that. You can lose your data if you haven't sold it so there is no benefit to holding onto it unless you want to sell it at a specific station.

There is a key bind in the options so that you can go back to route with a single button press.

The key you want is called "TARGET NEXT SYSTEM IN ROUTE" in the "TARGETING" section. I chose "R" (Resume Course) as that was currently bound to Silent Running, not something you want to do when exploring.

I thought selling carto maps in stations that are "Travel company" are worth more. I have either seen the appreciation in profits in my maps at these type of economies, or the maps have increased in their value proportionally with distance.

Nope. Not unless you have discovered a new wrinkle in the simulation. Not impossible, but...

I've never tried selling at one of those type of stations so you could be right. I've never seen anyone else mention it so it would be interesting to test it.

I can tell you guys right off here that I did stop by a station and checked for the profits if I was to sell all my carto data -- 58k and some change.
Decided to hold it off as I was off to a travel company, which was just 1 more stop away. When I arrived at the travel company, i sold everything for about 105k for the same set of carto data. I did not do additional scans.

Could you give us a clue as to what/where this "travel company" is.
Have just tried 2 Tourism systems:
1. Was a Penal Colony with a Tourist Economy (thats sick even for the Empire)
2. Run by a Fed Confederation

Both offered the same price for my Cart Data

Yes, I'd be very interested in hearing what a "travel company" is as I have never seen this so far.

I have about 3 weeks worth of data to sell and currently making my way back in time for the next patch... will take a while but if there's a way to almost double my investment when I get back then I'm all ears.

I'm looking for one of these in the galaxy map now. Didn't there used to be an option for cartographic shop in the galaxy map?
Given that you can sell your data at any station, that seems unlikely - unless it used to be more restricted in beta.

Bear in mind that the price shown on Stellar Cartographics is only for the current page. If you had multiple pages' worth to sell (not impossible at 105k), you wouldn't have seen the full total.

Lets just test it. Will be a hoot to go and tell all the 'pros' on the main discussion thread. Pity possible discoverer doesn't have a catchy name. The 'dat789bb factor ' doesn't exactly trip off the tongue ;)

Oh, yeah - one more thing: The total shown on the Cartographics page doesn't include any extra bonuses for First Discovery. These can add up to quite a lot if you're the first to scan a system.

OP needs to let us know what/where 'travel shop' is - ideally system/station please :)
Evyl Minkey - yes, you can filter view (in Galaxy map) on Cartographic Shop - seems to be where you can buy cartographic data on the given system. Not sure what the significance of this is ... apart from being able to buy the cartographic data for the system.
CMDR Lowest : Not sure if I want to say this, but ... check out the community goals - Tsu might be a good place to sell your data

Thanks. I was sure I'd seen it before. Can't find the option to filter to that view now. Not that it matters it'll take me a week to get back.

There certainly used to be an option in the GM to filter by nearest cartographers.

I'm just not sure what a "travel company" means but intrigued to find out...

Cheers for the heads up. I'm about 2000LY from civilised space though so might take me a while to get back as I scan on the way home too...

How many days left is the goal open for?

And the cartographers... I think it's just a filter for you to find the nearest one. It's good if you want to lose your data quickly after a long expedition. You can filter the nearest cartographers on the edge of populated space and sell without too much stress from interdiction flying into the centre to sell it.

I'm guessing it'll turn out to simply be a station controlled by a commercial faction with the word "travel" in their name.

Currently showing 2 days 22 hours 59 minutes left on the clock.
