Most everyone, and I’d venture to guess everyone who plays elite, is aware of Stephen Hawking’s many contributions to his field. Sadly Hawking has passed today. I was thinking that to honor Hawking and his work, perhaps we could have a CG to get materials to build Hawking Research Center (not a planetary base so all players can go to it) in Hawking’s Gap, preferably in a suitable black hole system.

As for me the CGs are very boring (every week nearly the same and mostly far away), but i would stop all my other work here to take part in this one.
As an additional reward i would suggest a decal for all who participated. Don't know waht it should look like, but i think our community may have good suggestions.

I think this is a great idea, and would be a fitting tribute to an individual who has contributed so much to the science that has made this game - and hence this community - possible and enjoyable to so many.

I would like to see some fund raiser for a Motor neurone disease charity, while he did great leaps for science he also raised funds for the research into the disease and also helping those froma poor background get into the sciences with his foundation

Great Idea, we need a research outpost in a star system with a black hole for honoring professor Hawking!

Agreed and a +1 for me on this idea. Out near the super massive BH, perhaps that star near it in that system or a system nearby with a planet to orbit. I'm heading to the Crab Nebula right now but if this were announced as an upcoming CG, I'd turn around in a heartbeat and buckyball my way back to join it.
