CH Products Hotas comparisons of key mappings with pictures

I thought it would be nice to compare our CH Fighterstick/Combatstick and CH Pro Throttle key/button setups with pics. I think this is interesting enough to give it it's own thread away from the joystick thread since this is mainly intended to post and compare mappings of a specific type of controllers although discussing the setups is also what I'm after.

With my Fighterstick I get so many keys mapped that I've got thrusters both on the Pro Throttles mini joystick and one of the Fighersticks 4-way hats. I've also got power balance on both controllers. The idea is that I can always reach e.g. the thrusters on the Fighterstick when I need to be using some other button on the Throttle device other then the mini joystick. The same goes for having power balance on both of them with UI key overrides for the UI interface.

Here goes:

Also note that I'm using TrackIR to make things easier and better, and the setup is complemented with CH Pro Pedals for yaw. I've also given one 4-way hat "default" power PIPS balancing - basically when I use the hat every button gives off a sequence of keyboard commands setup with the keyboard settings in the game options - I've not done any script programming though and it might be better to have a really short delay between the button inputs. I did have trouble once with it, but it's worked quite well also.

For me this is the ideal setup (...hat 3 on the throttle might change though...) but it's also really interesting to see other setups...

And here are the original unaltered images for the controller pics I used:

I have a similar setup on a Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS.

Just in process of setting up freetrackir, it's working in game but not very well.
Going to build an EDtrack v2 for head tracking.

Interesting thread, I wanted to post much the same but never got around to it.

I've only had my stick and throttle a couple of weeks but I'm getting there as far as something I am comfortable with. I still have quite a few spare buttons and also a bit of duplication which I could minimise in the future when we start needing more things to bind (functions related to mining, galaxy map, etc). I received the pedals today which I am using for yaw but probably won't use the toe brakes (awkward to use I find).

When I get TrackIR that will also free up the head look button I am using on the throttle (maybe I'll use it as a modifier button and get a million more available buttons?). I was using the POV hat on the stick for head look but using a button on the throttle and the mini stick seems to work better, and I now have the POV hat entirely free to bind later on. I imagine TrackIR is far better/easier though.

Like Snowbullet I also like being able to control the power diversion on both controllers though I tend to find I'm using the (castle?) on the stick much more for this so I'll probably use the hat on the throttle for something else some day.

Similarly, having the all the UI panel controls on both controllers works well. If i'm being lazy I can use either hand.

Finally I would like to have secondary fire on the red button on the top left of the stick rather than the pinky but I don't have gorilla hands.

Anyway:

I've ended up creating a GitHub repository for my maps which also has a huge writeup of how they're setup, plus installation instructions if you want to give them a go. There are also several blog posts at http://elite.domdavis.com :D The main button assignments are:

Greyed out text is the same operation as unshifted.

I've also left out the galaxy map overrides.

Is there no zero detent in the center on the CH throttle, since you use a key to reverse thrust?

Maybe I want a separate throttle later to accompany my fine Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2.

Snowbullet -that's a fine set up you have there.
I dusted off an old X-45 for the beta and it definitely has shortcomings compared with your kit. The CH stick/throttle/pedals are definitely on my wishlist, but as ever - there are quite a few things in the queue. If I ever get hold of them I'll be copying this setup immediately!!

This is what i have, and remember atm :)
I think i might be missing a few small secondary functions that i forgot about.

Things like cargo scoop and ship lights i keep on the keyboard since i never need those very urgently.
I prefer the mini stick for headlook instead of a pov hat because it auto centers and is able to instantly look in any direction whenever i want it.
And i actually prefer a hat for thrusting rather than the stick because with the hat i always know which direction i am going, the stick might send me 90% in the main direction and 10% in the other.

There is no center indent on the CH throttle. I experimented with using the throttle axis for forward and reverse, and also tried using a command for reverse throttle. But I found I do better using forward/reverse thrust to modify speed in combat, and mostly leave the throttle in the maximum maneuvering position. In combat I have my left thumb on forward/reverse thrusters/yaw and my other thumb on l/r/u/d thrusters.

I have a solution to the center detent issue

I'm currently in the process of setting up a unique combination of two joysticks: a CH Fighterstick on the right for pitch and roll, and a Flightstick Pro on the left for throttle and yaw. I have yet to finalize a scheme for all those hat switches and buttons though...

Thanks for the inspiration and link to the stock image for the Fighterstick!

Great thread :D

I've just picked up the CH Pro Throttle and Fighterstick as my X-55 went RMA! So far I'm mostly impressed...and loving the analog stick on the throttle

The config manager takes a bit of getting used to but it seems pretty powerful if you spend some time with it.

I've spent a couple of days working out my config (and not playing much ED!). I tried a few of the set-ups on here and this is what I've ended up with, which seems to work so far, although I haven't done much combat yet.

- I do have rudder pedals, which I use for any serious flying like farming RES, but for general pottering about I often can't be bothered to sit straight hence Yaw buttons on the stick Hat 3.
- Hardpoints and Mode change are on the same button, so in Green mode guns are stowed, and in Red and Orange they are out. In Orange mode the Yaw buttons switch to Fire Group control.

Time to necro the hell out of this thread, hey at least I didn't create a new one...

I just upgraded to the CH Fighterstick, Throttle and Pedals. It takes getting used to but I can already feel it's a much better and long lasting setup.

Being more PVP or combat oriented, the bindings I could find online didn't completely do it for me, although Dom's were very useful and work well in a few places I think. I couldn't see any that included Horizons bindings either.

I feel that hyperdrive, supercruise and power management need to be readily available on the stick. Pretty much fire control, power, cells, sinks, chaff, silent running and escape all easily accessible. If anyone is interested in a leaner set of bindings that do pretty much everything you need, including SRV control (like a car on the pedals), with a focus on combat please see if these are useful for you:

Hey Andrak,

Just wondering if you wouldn't mind posting your CHCM files and .bind files for ED? That setup is ideal to how I would like to setup. I keep trying to duplicate it on my own, but I just can't seem to grasp the software. Thanks!
