Challenge maps with terrain features

I would like to have challenge maps be more than just a big flat piece of land because terrain helps spark my imagination. It might be a hill that I can put a restaurant on, or a water feature I want to incorporate into a rollercoaster, or just a different pathing layout. Terrain is interesting because it requires me to think a little before I put something down and I really enjoy that.

For sandboxes I can just rely on the workshop, or just make myself a mountain or three if I want, but for challenge mode there are no good options as every challenge map in the workshop is made with the same cash restrictions and no one has the money to resculpt the map before they build up a park.

I'd like to see some kind of terrain option for challenge maps. Maybe let us change sandbox maps to challenge maps if there are no buildings or paths on them on them. That way people can design the terrain they want in sandbox but build up their park and play the game in challenge mode. Or just throw us a bunch of hand-made challenge maps with some terrain on it. Just do something to make the challenge maps more interesting to play on.

Correct me if i´m wrong, but isn´t it possible already to start sandbox saves as challenge Park?

If you look at your challenge parks you get the option to "Play as Sandbox" on them as well as "Play as Challenge". If you look at your Sandbox parks you only see "Play as Sandbox". So challenge parks can be made into sandboxes but the reverse isn't possible to my knowledge.

The idea of this game is FOR YOU to use your own imagination and not rely on pre built / terrain items, there are plenty of less advanced games like this for people who need motivation to use their imagination.

Your condescending opinion is noted but considering that the game will happily let you download anything from toilet stalls to roller coasters to entire parks from the workshop the idea that the game is somehow meant to be played using nothing but ones own pure imagination is utterly wrong to begin with.

This is a suggestions forum. I made a suggestion, I didn't ask you to tell me I'm playing my game wrong because you have some kind of gamer inferiority complex.

And it's not like adding this to the game would harm anything. Make it optional. Everyone gets to have fun. Everyone wins.

Your condescending opinion is noted ...
Yeah...

I too would like challenge parks with prebuilt terrain, it can certainly add to the challenge.
It's also nice to make a plan FOR the terrain, rather than planning the terrain and the park.
It would be nice if all scenario terrain were available to select as an empty challenge map.

(and I am an artist for a living. ;) )

I've done some terrain sculpting in challenge mode. Granted, you have to save up money before you go about doing so. It can leave your early park looking flat. My solution was to create a starter park way off to the side of the main entrance. I used that starter area to generate a lot of money in maximum play speed. Then I went back and sculpted what I wanted, redid the entrance, and gradually took apart the starter area -- all in challenge mode.

I think the real solution to this problem is not to have pre-made maps with different terrains. No, the real solution is to implement a terrain generator. This is something I have always wanted to see in Frontier's coaster games.

That is what I do on various career levels get the cash going on an efficient basic park close down and then start planning and then section by section test and deal with the career situations as and when, when you have 100 to 200k terra forming is a pinch compared to proper layered and themed areas and rides.

A Terrain generator which has various blueprints is a good idea, which can be adjusted from various points before and after.

As in Dune 'The spice must flow' and our spice is imagination :)

Given how good Frontier are at using procedural generation it seems odd that creating random maps isn't included. I prefer challenge mode as well and I'd love to work around some terrain rather than embark on a sandbox free-for-all just to enjoy something a bit different.

I miss the park terrains that was in Alpha.
I agree with you Kallews. Don't let others tell you how to play PC "properly".
