So just for the record, it's only powerplay that is going to be locked into open only. You can still trade/explore/grind the BGS in solo/private, but this discussion is only about powerplay.
I am not convinced that undermining/fortifying/preparing from within solo play is healthy for powerplay as a whole.

I agree that pp should be open only. All these solo/pg alarmists are just being silly with the slippery slope/fdev hates solo players/pvp=bad touch stuff.

Im in agreement that PP going open is good fer the game...Im not in agreement at pvp players attempting to rub salt into the wounds. This is a hot enough topic without throwing more fuel at the fire, and threads like this wont make the situation any better.

In this case, some levels of stupid are beyond repair...yer doing more harm than ye realize...1/10 ^

It will kill PP and achieve nothing other than revenge against those who won't play with you.

Change my mind.

PP died when people started using solo advantage to literally cheat win(because no one can stop them)
So 1 player in solo can beat 10-14 players in open easy.
Whole point of PP was people contesting against each other. When people in solo only contest how much they can force their kids to grind, while they at work

Change my mind

Perhaps solo players still want to enjoy the RP elements of pledging to a power and working for them as part of one of the three superpowers, without which the superpowers themselves become largely meaningless, the bubble becomes largely meaningless, and by extension the game becomes largely meaningless, encouraging players to take their money elsewhere, leading to a lack of funding to cover development and maintenance costs, and ultimately leading to the early unplanned shuttering of ED?

Something like that?

Nope, it died when it was too much grind for most and too few targets fed to the PvPers for them.

" advantage to literally cheat win"
Nope,it's not cheating. Heck, it doesn't even WIN.

Yes you can. Earn more merits than them. They can't see you in Open. And if they log in to spy, you can see them now.

Are you really wanting one of us to do you your brain transplant??? I'm not sure any of us are that skilled, but we can try! I'm game if you are! ;) :D :)

Can you outline exactly how it will "kill powerplay"?

Currently I think powerplay is already dead. These proposed changes would make powerplay PvP gameplay more meaningful, with players able to directly put a stop to underminers and stop enemy factions from shipping fortification materials to their control systems.
Players would need to wing up and fight for their systems, which is exactly the type of PvP gameplay that is needed in this game. I am not convinced that undermining/fortifying from solo makes the game any better.

PP open only, yes. Other stuff open only? I have my thoughts on that but I'll leave them elsewhere.

CQC doesn't fulfil the PvP requirement, I posit that's because its just PvP, no background / involvement with a bigger element of the game. The massive, positive response to PP going open only is driven not by a desperate need for PvP alone, its the need for a framework that enables full player interaction, from the micro to the macro, across all the aspects of the game. The majority of players in the forums (and unofficial reddit polls - fwiw) responded positively because they know there is a hollow void where player interaction should be.

PP could eventually overtake the Empire/Fed/Alliance affiliation, simply because it will mean something on a personal level, within the game.

Or they could just log into open if they want to partake in powerplay. Nobody is forced to play permanently in solo, you know. Just like nobody is forced to take part in powerplay.

Or you could log in to solo if you want that apparent superpower of unbeatable win. Nobody is forcing you to play permanently in Open, you know.

That's the point. Everybody powerplaying in solo makes PvP gameplay meaningless and nonexistent. Sandro is proposing these changes so that powerplay can return to its intended PvP-centric roots (as per the original powerplay announcement).

Nobody is forcing you to play permanently in Open, you know.

They will be soon ;)

Do you think that Dev time should be set aside for a game mode that less than 5% of the players base uses or that we should fix other parts of the game first before we get around to removing a set number of people from a game mode they bought?

Ok, take this example:

Archon was turned inside out by 5C a few weeks ago.

20 systems were fortified

3 unwanted systems were expanded to 2500% each

1 wanted system was opposed to about 2000%

All this was done by invisible enemies in invisible ships.

You are honestly telling me that as a small power we should 'haul more' to beat that?

Here is a newsflash: why don't I go out and kill the people doing it? I won't get them all, but thats about Open play teamwork.

I was pysically sat in my home system flying in Open to see who was coming and going. I can see the ship counters go up but what can I do?

My power could not turmoil as we were fortified out of turmoil.

How could we intentionally fail our own expansions that we did not want?

Open + the 5C changes would eliminate nearly all that.
