General / Off-Topic Change your Kickstarter password

Anyone else received an email alert from Kickstarter?
On Wednesday night, law enforcement officials contacted Kickstarter and alerted us that hackers had sought and gained unauthorized access to some of our customers' data. Upon learning this, we immediately closed the security breach and began strengthening security measures throughout the Kickstarter system.

No credit card data of any kind was accessed by hackers. There is no evidence of unauthorized activity of any kind on your account.

While no credit card data was accessed, some information about our customers was. Accessed information included usernames, email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, and encrypted passwords. Actual passwords were not revealed, however it is possible for a malicious person with enough computing power to guess and crack an encrypted password, particularly a weak or obvious one.

Good to know, and thanks Patrick, once you visit the KS site they have a banner saying to change your password, so i followed that and did like you did, make a new password.

@Mods - I asked for this to be moved, but someone else has since hit the main forum with it, so too late.

.....
Why have they hidden it away and not on their front page?
Could the blogs/twitter been hacked to say there is a fault when there is not?
Also I can not see any banner saying to change the password on the main website.

only reason I have a kickstarter account is for E: D.

what happens if you signed in via FaceBrick?

Yep, same here. Got burned a few months back and won't be going through that again. I recommend KeePass with Chrome integration for storing and accessing passwords.

Same here. Dutifully I have obliged. One recommendation I would make is never choose a password that is less than 9 characters and if you can, always use a non-alpha character. There are rainbow tables out there for the entire ASCII keyspace up to 8 characters but none that exists for 9 and up as far as I know as they haven't been generated yet.
