Changing commander name ?

I paid close attention to it when creating my alt that I was neither holding down shift, nor that caps lock was active.

It still showed up in all caps.

Well, i cant really remember how it was for the CMDR Name, but as @Ned Flandalorian said it could be the same as is for Ships - the font used to display your input is all caps, but it's recorded/stored as typed - so if you use capitals only for starting letter, it is recorded as such.

For example, my ship's name is displayed in all capitals in various fields in the game - which is not how i typed it, but Inara is displaying that name properly with capitals B and E

I can tell you that I entered the character name while caps lock was clearly shown as off when I entered the name of my alt in, well, just this December. And only held shift down for the J and R at the beginning of each part of the name respectively.

The “display name” for mission boards and whatnot still showed it as being in all caps. My ship names, however, as you say… they registered the inputs correctly where I used upper case and lower case.
