Chapter 3 release date 28th August

Someone just pointed out to me somewhere else it could be the guardian Ark Ships, like our generation ships.

Givin the size of the structure that looks like a good shout to me.

What's the quote from? Sounds slightly misleading tbh.

We only know of 3 arks being sent, and they preceded both FTL travel and comms, and what drove it was a need to deal with increasing overpopulation of the home planet.

Would be surprising if it's one of them still functioning after millions of years, rather than much more advanced latter day Guardian tech.

Chapter 1 was 3.0
Chapter 2 was 3.1
Chapter 3 was 3.2

Cuz that makes sense...

To me it does.

See... you don't do code/release builds that goes from 2.9 to 3.1... so, the code/build has to be 3.0, or it would imply that something went missing between builds. That said...

There are better ways to internaly make this work, so that the code-build / version build, matches what actually is released but still make sense, and can be easily trackable...

As a beta-tester for a certain software, they have one label for the releases, and continuous version numbers for their builds.

As an example....

Build 0001 (internal name) = Release of version 2018.0 (official name and release)
Build 0004 (internal name) = BETA-tester release for upcomming Patch 1; the beta-tester official name is 2018.0.1 BETA (not released for masses, just beta-testers)
Build 0007 (internal name) = Patch update 1, named 2018.0.1 (official name and release)

This company also have a very robust in-software bug reporting tool as well as feature request tool, and when using either of them, they ask you to fill in the build number, rather than the release version. That said, if you launch the tool from whatever version you are using, it will auto-sense the correct build number and fill it in for you.

If it doesn't, there is an About thing you can read and it shows what Build you are on, no matter if you are a BETA tester or an end-user.

I am quite puzzled why FD are trying to make their internal build-names / versions to almost represent the release versions.

Oh well... :D

The quote does sound like all those things(ftl, ftl comms, ark ships)happened at the same time alright rather than over a period of time,is that the issue with it?

Could well be later tech. To me something that size and in space suits the idea of it being an Ark ship though. They probably would have built them to last givin that they would have been travelling for a decent amount of time like our generation ships.

Depends on if they brought the rebellious AI with them or not. There might just be living Guardians out there, if they have perfected cryosleep/stasis technology allowing them to survive for very long periods of time.

Looks to me like they added another capital ship model to the combat instances.
(guardian/thargoid)

Let's see if they're any different or play out the same but with different 3d models.

Time will tell.

It is designed to look old and dilapidated, like the Guardian ruins, with a few things functioning.

Yep, but this looks like a weapon mark to me. Then, it looks somehow familiar and reminds me of the marks on the JJ Cobra. Whatever.

Then, what about this part? Doesn't look like being part of the structure Thing, but more like a ship. Farragut I thought at first, but doesn't seem to quite fit.

I'm sure the MoM (hello!) could shed some light on this, but she just won't :D

O7,

Chapters?
What novel are we reading here? A novel usually has chapters. Is ED a novel?

noun: novel; plural noun: novels
a fictitious prose narrative of book length, typically representing character development and action with some degree of realism.

Can you not stop turning the pages in this novel?

Ah. Always best to go off the originals rather than someone else's paraphrasing, in my experience. The main things is that article using the word 'first' indicates there were more. However, the original logs talk specifically about 3, and don't imply there were more. The logs explain that the development of FTL comms happened while the Arks were en route, and that the use of the arks kept the population issue under control long enough for FTL travel to be developed which then fuelled their expansion into the galaxy.

There nothing to indicate that any of the 3 arks weren't successful in their missions. And realistically, they'd be to the nearest habitable planets/systems.

And the thing is with our successful colonisation missions is that we see no sign of the colony ships. Presumably that's because those ships represent huge amounts of processed/manufactured resources which would be used by the colonists. I would think that this would apply even more for the Guardians given their ecologically conscientious nature.

I could be completely wrong of course, and it would certainly be an interesting development if it was one of the arks - it'd just take a lot more explaining than it being a latter day ship IMHO!
