CHat pad as additional control buttons

I am not sure if this can by done on the XBONE and of course the community would have to determine if this is an unfair advantage.

I recently got the chat pad for the XBONE controller. In Elite there and a lot of new control settings. Many more than we have actual button on the controller to use. Could these control option be use by the chat pad?

For instance, one control that constantly bugs me is the switch from standard to alternate flight control. When in a fight I find it hard not to press on the stick which changes the controls. I have since set both standard and alternate flight controls the same so as not to interrupt me in a fight. This is a prime candidate for a key on the chat pad. Also setting throttle speed to the number buttons 1=10% 2=20% etc.

Again, I am not even sure the XBONE allows a developer to do this.

Text only input, I'm afraid...same as a keyboard on the Xbox one [sad]

I don't own a chat pad but I think it would be a great idea to add, that way you could use every single bindable function that we have available, right now alot of those are unused.

You can create a lot of shortcuts, you know. A+RB is a different command than RB+A. The order buttons are used matters, so you can have a lot.

What would be great if you could save different Controller settings because I need very different things depending on what I do.
Having a quickload Controller setting for Combat, Mining, Exploring would save a lot of mapping time for me.

What makes it all the more painful is that if you use an Xbox controller and chatpad on the PC version, the chatpad does have all the keybindings of a regular keyboard.

I wont take anything away from this thread as it would be handy, but they did a pretty darned good job with the holding buttons to give other functions to the triggers and bumpers.

First time I had seen it done on the xbox so kudos for giving us as many controls as there are already :)

Hmm, this gives me an idea.

Can you customize all the ' Alternative flight controls" ?

If so, we might be able to have another 32 buttons to use with a single button press. I'm pretty sure I can make room for a button combination to enable alternative flight controls.

I will use " Alternative flight controls" to use all the stuff like: Landing gear, ship lights, cargo scoop, ect ect, so I have more buttons to map in my " primary flight controls"

You need the Elite Controller (funny it matches the game name), it comes with additional buttons/paddles.
I use it by myself and has nothing to do with advantages, everyone can buy this controller if they dont its not my problem.
My fighter setup is, full throttle forward, reverse, FA on/off, chaff, and some commands for the fighter.
No need to use of firegroups and other button combos.

The elite controller doesn't have additional buttons though. It are just buttons that you can remap.

It isn't a controller with 4 " extra" buttons.. I wish it was though.

Just to add this, this limitation is implemented by Microsoft purposely. They have stated they don't allow the chatpad to be used outside of chat functions on Xbox to prevent an unfair advantage.

Same with the elite pad, and the reasoning of not giving it extra buttons instead of just remaps.

To be perfectly frank I think it's a sheer excuse to be lazy as possible and not have to enhance any of the drivers to accommodate extra controls. But hey, whattayagonnado :)

I agree, if someone is willing to infest in hardware, I don't mind the person in question would have an advantage ingame. Besides, besides Elite Dangerous, I can't think of any practical use of extra buttons on a controller.

In most games, specially FPS games, not even all buttons are used anyway.

Yeah, same with PC use. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if the buttons were true extra buttons.

Those four paddles on the back are actually the AXYB buttons. They're there so you can use the right thumbstick and the buttons at the same time.
