CHat pad as additional control buttons

I bought an elite controller to use on the PC for FPS games like ARMA 3 and all the other games I still play on the Xbox... only because my surviving day one controller on the Xbox has developed a bit of drift after 3 years of abuse (and the elite was cheap in the Amazon January sales). I still can't map the paddles to separate functions on the PC for anything I've tried it on... never mind the Xbox. A bit disappointing in the end, flappy paddles that merely mimic the AYXB buttons like Ezren mentioned.

There is an Xbox accessories app for the PC/Xbox to use with the Elite controller to map different profiles, you can have two separate profiles mapped into the controller at the same time switchable from a mode switch on the controller face between the menu and function buttons.... haven't tried it yet, so I'm not sure how useful it would be in ED.

Saying that, I love the weight and feel of it... extra thumbsticks and Dpad in a nice case too [up]

Your 100% correct about the feel and weight. I occasionally play on a different Xbox with a standard controller and the difference is very noticeable. Couldn't go back full time to a standard controller.

I'm using an Elite controller to control Elite. Of course, any controller is an Elite controller is used for Elite but I am actually using an Elite controller for that. Eliteception! I have to say, though, I love it, with the exception of the ridiculously loud d-pad which clicks so loud even my neighbor knows when I play. I also use a Chatpad which is great help when communicating and writing system names in the galaxy map.

Try using a Tablet for typing, it's got a nice feel when you have it set up next to you as a control. I wish there was some additional function - I don't know you but I would bury you in a shallow grave in the middle of the desert for an Elite App that let us navigate the menus on a separate device similar to what Fallout 4 had.

Full keyboard support is already possible on xbox, astroneer has it. However im not sure if its a choice by the developer to implement it and/or Microsoft to allow it.

For the chat pad though i do see why Microsoft havent allowed it to be used due to unfair advantages in multiplayer.

I think Microsoft are using a pretty lame argument there when you consider the amount of hardware options available to PC owners playing multiplayer games across the known world...admittedly, we tend not to play on Xbox live too much [squeeeee]

Xbox is a standard and predictable hardware configuration with standard peripherals and accessories.

PC is not.

True indeed...a level gaming platform for the masses. Alongside Xbox live, it ensures an almost cheat free playing environment too.

Was looking for the answer to this question before I purchased Elite. I would purchase the game, an elite controller, and the chatpad RIGHT NOW if the game supported the chatpad as a functioning keyboard like the PC version. As it stands...oh well. I'll just hope someday it happens. I won't buy the game until then though.

The lack of keyboard/chatpad support is down to Microsoft, not Frontier. Having played the Xbox version for over a year, I'd highly recommend adding it to your game shelf...keyboard controls or not [yesnod]

Ok, I'll do that next paycheck. I'd love to sign on with a crew before going out on my own. Any freighters looking for new hands?

Well Multicrew isn't out just yet, so you can't crew up on another's ship.

I mean, my NPC crewman has made almost 80 million credits, so it's a profitable venture. But I'm a warship, not a freighter.

The elite controller doesn't have additional buttons though. It are just buttons that you can remap.

It isn't a controller with 4 " extra" buttons.. I wish it was though.

This. Much as I love my Elite controller, not being able to do anything other than mirror the face buttons is a pain in the chuff.

I hate to necro this, but I thought it a better option than starting a new thread.

I picked up a chatpad last week, plugged it up to the controller with the headset, plugged it all up to the Xbox, and updated the software. I have now lost all my capture controls. The X1 and X2 buttons don't work, and if I double tap the home button the options to use X and Y are gone now. I have looked through the Xbox settings and checked if there are any further updates available for the controller. No joy for with either of those. Has anyone else with a chatpad encountered this problem?

A trip to google suggests to check your settings to see if video capture / broadcast capabilities have magically disabled themselves.

Thanks for the reply mung0. They still show as enabled, but I'll try disabling them and re-enabling them after work today.

I've never had that issue with mine.

I'm assuming you aren't trying this when streaming via the Xbox app to a PC?, as I know for a fact the screenshot & DVR by X/Y via the guide disappears when you do that. (intention being you use the same kind of functions at the PC end rather than on the Xbox).

If all else fails and you haven't already tried, do a proper full shutdown of the console (disconnect power cable etc) - same as clearing the cache.

You assume correct. I've never used that play anywhere capability. If switching the settings off and on doesn't work, I'll try the full shutdown. If neither of those work, guess I'll need to clear my afternoon to talk with Microsoft support.
