Newcomer / Intro Choose a system as "home"

Even "temporary" home positions are good to consider. Temporary, like when you are in another location for an extended time. Lots of reasons for this. Sometimes it might even be far out in deep space when parking your fleet carrier with no human populations nearby.
  • Travel distance from star.
  • Easy name to remember and type.
  • Services available in local stn. Interstallar Factors and Material Trader are my preferred ones.
  • A system with a station that consistently offers good missions. And nearby systems with good missions too.
  • NOT a station with those godawful noob hammers that swirl around them.
  • Often it is preferable to locate NEAR a system with good mining, haz res sites, etc. And just book mark them. So that rather than having to supercruise back-and-forth you can just jump to your home system and have a very short supercruise journey to your home.

  • NOT a station with those godawful noob hammers that swirl around them.
Surely only a problem for noobs (hence the name). Everyone else approaches the face of the station (of whatever type) in supercruise, anyway - faster than manoeuvring around them in normal space.

Depends on situation and whats happening. There's lots of situations when returning home. If supercruising assist while doing other activities or whatever. Anyway, given choice there is no reason to select an annoying stn over a less annoying stn.

Also, sometimes a cmdr might leave a station too.

By reading around it seems that is very common to choose a solar system and making it their "home". I understand that somebody choose a system with a spaceport selling everything (like Jameson memorial) or choosing a system home of their faction, but what other criteria are behind this decision? I am new, and I know that, but I really want to stay around a system at the beginning to pull up credits and experience. Share your thoughts Commanders!

  • An industrial system,
  • single star,
  • with a starport within 50ls of drop point,
  • no station/settlement farther away than 2000ls,
  • preferably 20+ settlements
  • preferably a mix of imperial/fed factions or at least some imperial factions (i value more the Cutter than the Corvette since there are plenty of combat ships, but no replacement for the Cutter as hauler / large miner / large Ax shield tank)
  • good neighborhood (aka not isolated, with a mix of high tech, agri, extraction, refinery as nearby systems)
  • a nearby "beaten-by-all" anarchy faction as destination for stackable pirate massacre missions

I'm curious why you prefer single star systems. Or just because you want the nice system features around the primary star?

Cause rarely the multi star systems have decent in-system distances.

Currently (for the week that will end tomorrow morning) i'm being based in a Post-Thargoid Recovery system, doing restores, where the B+C stars are 150k ls from drop off - so it's not like i'm completely avoiding them, but for a long term stay, i would prefer a single star system
