Chris Roberts update

I'm one of the americans that learned about Elite only after Chris Roberts told me about it (Tells me quite a bit about the community that I almost referred to him only by his first name).
It doesn't really suprise me though, why would retailers import a game from the UK that no one ever heard of.

For what it's worth, I seem to remember from a documentary I watched the other day that Elite got to No. 1 in the Billboard game charts. It was possibly the first British game ever to even get on the charts at all, apparently. So it was known to some extent in America, but doesn't seem to have made the same impact for some reason.

I just purchased WC3 off GOG which for me was the best in the series...Just drooled over those cockpits as well...I still have the boxed WC3 but i tend to not want to open that its in perfect condition with everything....GOG was the answer to my problem :)

Just cant wait for both these games :D

Think it just the simple fact is that the Wing commander games are more current also they made the break out to other media ie books, film, tv series and also they have had a couple of unofficial sequels in Starlancer/Freelancer.

The Elite games on the other hand have been dead as the parrot for the last 17 years.

I wonder how much of an effect his endorsement had on the final surge just before it got funded. It was a huge flood of pledges. We may have him to thank for (part of) it :)

I think it helped quite a bit. Kudos to Chris and David for supporting each others projects and showing what can be achieved. :)

A huge thanks to Chris and the guys from the Star Citizen community that came over to the wet and wild british side of the space exploration and combat genre. Without all your help we would have been in serious trouble!

For the american gamer of that era, Star Raiders (1979!) would have most likely been the game they were playing (which inspired Elite etc) while we brits and euros had Elite a little later(1984), then they had the Wing Commander and X-wing games.

I can't help but feel like this is the rebirth of a genre. Who better to be at the spearhead of this? I'm excited about both games in very different ways.

Games that players want - without the homogenising influence of 3rd parties.

Thats a good point Spacegamer, there are lots of projects out there struggling to get noticed and thanks to the SSC, word is getting out about them.

Did Chris Roberts actually do a second ED shout in the end?

Could still be very helpful with US exposure and keep the PP fund ticking over.

Chris Roberts & the Star Citizen community has shown some real class in lending there support maybe some thanks is in order? :)

Chris Roberts ... yes
But the SC community? I'm not so sure. Yes they backed Elite, but they did that for their own benefit. I did not see anyone posting in the KS comments as the time ran down "Hi, I'm really a Star Citizen fan, but I thought I'd back Elite and and I just want to say it's an honour to share this moment with you all."

And yes, I posted something like that on the SC comments & the Godus comments.
I did not see them post on the Elite KS comments thanking us for supporting SC or Godus, but just because I didn't see it, doesn't mean they didn't.

Sorry if I sound ungrateful, but you are asking me to thank them, when they didn't thank me for supporting them.

Zoiks & fair enough :)

Didn't see anything in the update from RSI but I guess they are busy with there own game.

And speaking of updates I hope we will be getting regular updates from Frontier.

I did not back Star Citizen has the gameplay style shown did not appeal to me that much.

However I got to admire Chris Roberts and the 3 main as I see it space sim leaders (David, Chris, Josh) being very nice to each other and that is so nice to see. Good luck to them all, they all deserve it.

I didn't back SC myself, but that's because i never was much of a Wing Commander back in the day..it does look like it's going to be an impressive project though for those who prefer a more structured experience, and i genuinely wish Chris and RSI all the best with it...it's great to see the publisher-free revolutionn taking place!!!
